Is Tze Ming still in town?

Judy, Re: The Governor and the angry politicians, Trisha Dunleavy from Victoria in her book Ourselves in Primetime makes the case that Muldoon used the cost over-runs on The Governor as a cynical way of whacking TV One journalists, who he saw as too "aggressive" towards him. In the same book, Dunleavey argues that our mid-70s of two state channels running independently, one Wellington-centric, one Auckland-centric, might well have been the golden age of NZ television.

Thanks for having me. So many peoples, so little time. Wish I got to meet you'll. :)

Thanks Russell, it was a hoot.
-
Thanks everyone else, you were a hoot.

In a good way.

Ok, now I am jealous. Ithaca PAS drinkies tonight, my place. Come on over. You'll recognize it easily - it's the one that Nabokov never lived in/lived near/visited.

I want to say to all of you who came last night - I was very nervous about coming because there are people who post here who are very erudite and cerebral. The thought of holding your own in conversations with such people is a little scary. So I set out with some trepidation, and was very pleasantly surprised. I met someone there who I know, offline, and wasn't aware was a PAS regular reader. There were others who are very prolific, and who I was slightly scared of. And in truth, they were just very lovely people. So thankyou all for stepping out from behind your keyboards (or in Steve's case, putting the cellphone down) and being brave enough to get out there and engage with everyone. It's a rare pleasure, and I wanted to tell you all how much it meant to me. I look forward to next time.

Russell, I just wanted to quickly say thank you for the great event. I had to leave after only a couple of hours, and would have liked to stay longer, but it was a pleasure being in a room filled with so many interesting and creative people.
I look forward to the next event - hopefully soon!

You live in that house? Cool. But seriously, I've always been fascinated by Ithaca. It must be a groovy place except when you leave for a holiday it takes ages to find the way back and by the time you finally return only the dog will know who you are.

Also, you have to keep a really sharp eye out when you're doing your ploughing.

Is Tze Ming still in town?
No, in London. But she provides remote intelligence.
-
Well, that was fun. Alcohol is a great social lubricant.
Craig - I can confirm that my breasts are all natural, just in case there was any lingering doubt.
Linda and all the other lurkers: come, join usss......there will be no more struggle or pain. All you have to do is close your eyes and go to sleep. To sleeeeeeeeep......
-
Thanks Russell, a very pleasant interlude.
Cool bar too.

Heh. I dunno, Rich. I tried to convince her on the way home that it would be good to hear more from those who read in silence, and refuse to join in the cacophony. She wasn't swayed!

It was really good to see a Hotel that was trying to step out of the mould that all the others tend to follow. We agreed, (myself and the lovely Danish guy running the place) that it was aiming for (and on fast track to achieving imo) the right atmosphere to attract people looking for that Hotel Babylon type of place.I was amazed there were 250 rooms and yet there seemed to be a personal approach to anyone walking in.I will recommend it to others. I felt comfortable and they didn't know me from a bar of soap.Cute Bar, great looking furniture (those couches in the vestibule to the bar, I could go there)Lovely jubbly. :)Think the zen garden could have had a mother of a rock though, jus' sayin'

Now I've done something on Thusday (and it was a nice evening), how are you going to fill the void that is the rest of my small and futile life? Ay, Brown! You've raised unreasonable expectations, and that never ends well...
-
Emma, you were fantastic company by proxy. You and I had a number of drinks and quite a few ciggies together. You were also impeccably behaved, and I think you may have enchanted a few people. Sofie did you proud.
Excellent. Obviously I should not-go to things more often. My behaviour is normally fairly peccable.
-
Although by the same token I was hoping for more tales of debauchery. What's with this civilised and urbane nonsense?
-
Looks like I missed a great night out. Curse this April flu. I would have loved to have met you all had I not been a sniveling contagious wreck - hopefully there'll be another Social soon.

Totally off topic here but where's that Tony Veitch world record thread when you need it again?
It's already begun.

17-4-2009 8.43amFirst sites shut down.
2 websites claiming additional assaults were committed by Broadcaster Tony Veitch have been shut down following an initial injunction obtained by Veitch and his legal team late last night in the High Court.
One, a sports website and another sports blog refused to remove articles and discussion threads discussing the Veitch case in graphic detail as well as containing what were considered defamatory remarks regarding Veitches ability as a broadcaster.
Veitch was quoted as saying “hopefully this will send a clear message to many other sites that its not OK to slander people on the internet”. Veitch also stated there were “several other sites” he hoped to target by the end of today.
-
Yamis, we obviously have to be careful what we say on this topic, since Veitch and his legal team are aggressively pursuing alleged defamers.
It is interesting, though, because I would have thought to commit defamation a person's good name would have to be harmed. In Veitch's case, the previous "revelations" in the news media and his subsequent conviction and guilty plea would seem to call into question the current value of his reputation.
-
Perhaps we should all descend anonymously on Kiwiblog...

Ah, but how many bloggers can afford that level of lawyer to fight him?
