but also I would suggest “creepy” is not a sufficient term –
ultimately, it’s being an Empowered Big Swinging Dick
… which means not having to think about how
the “little people” (=anyone who isn’t you) may feel.

he is also doing his usual 'putting his words in other peoples' mouths' routine:

"There is no shame in telling the truth, and it's a lot easier to keep track of than a lie.

"Neither of these two things have happened and so it had to be said; even my mother knew instantly that I simply don't talk like that."I wonder if that's why Key's blonde offsider - seen in most tv clips of him these days - (Sia Aston - press secretary?) has short hair...?

This just got a whole lot more distasteful.
The waitress says she was deceived into sitting down with her employers and talking to Rachel Glucina on the pretence that Glucina was to help them prepare a press statement making it clear her beef wasn't with the company.
She says the interview and pictures taken on this pretence were then used in Glucina's front page lead story in this morning's Herald.
Sordid.

In contrast to Glucina's Dirty Politics assassination of this poor woman, international media are applying a more accurate context to the story. The Washington Post headline reads, New Zealand’s ponytail-pulling prime minister becomes national embarrassment.

The NZ Herald comments section desperately needs a 'thumbs down' option - there are so many 'Key apologists' on there getting a free-ride - though they are a frightening insight into the mindset of a Key voter!

This is just disgusting. It appears as though The Herald, through Glucina and Currie have decided to give up any pretense of having moral standards.
Surely there are some restrictions on whether journalists are allowed to lie to victims of harassment to get a story?
This woman was the victim of sustained bullying and harassment.

No more Harald for me. Not online, not hard copy, and I'll not knowingly support their advertisers either. I'm sure someone will notice and let me know if their culture changes. Sorry about the good guys working there, but I don't have the stomach for this nauseating behaviour.

Note that Glucina is denying the accusation about what she did and promising a statement. Herald will be lawyering it first, I imagine.

Oh and the editor is backing her by the looks.
Glucina tweeted this morning saying the claims were "utterly not true" and that she would be "responding in due course".
Herald Editor Shayne Currie told TVNZ that "none of what is stated is accurate".
Unless he has listened to interview recordings, not sure what he's basing that reckon on.

Glucina and the Herald have clearly breached (abandoned?) any pretence of journalistic ethics today. The Press Council's statement of Principles is clear about this.

Glucina should lose her job. It's squalid and morally bankrupt. I can accept sometimes deception by journalists is necessary and legitimate when the aim is to hold the powerful to account.
When the aim is to crush the powerless and protect the powerful, it's contemptible. -

Not clear yet what role they have played in this latest development, but their venue managers need to protect staff in their care better.

With Rachel denying the woman's version and Currie backing Rachel, the next step has to be character assassination of the waitress. She's in for a rough ride, how can we support her?

Apparently Key's ponytail fetish is known as Trichophilia.
Trichophilia refers to sexual urges or arousal involving hair.
Treatment is generally not sought unless the condition becomes problematic for the person in some way, or they come under scrutiny of the legal system, and become compelled to address their condition. Many people simply learn to accept their fetish and manage to achieve gratification in an appropriate manner.

It's a big stretch to accept that the employers didn't know what they were doing when they involved Rachel G. They either hung their employee out for the wolves or they are so naive that it is incredible they can run a business.

Yeah this part really pisses me off. It isn't entirely clear that the owners of The Hip Group weren't lied to as well but the most parsimonious conclusion is that they hung their waitress out to dry for the benefit of Glucina, The Herald, and Key.
And I do go to their cafes, I think I've eaten at most of them and been many times to some of them. What bugs me is their staff always seem happy and helpful - which usually indicates that the bosses are decent and fair.
Yet on the face of it, the owners of The Hip group have decided it was better business to trick their staff member into an interview with one of the most right wing gossip columnists around.
It will be hard to stop visiting Hip Group cafes but there are a lot of other nice cafes in Auckland.

I don't think government ministers ever go in Cuba St cafes, but if they did, then the slightest bit of barista or solicita fondling would result in a sharp whack with an empty bottle of craft beer, and the owners would most likely back them up.
