  • BenWilson,

Yeah, I know. I should drop that line.

Rubbish. It's beer o'clock Brown-side, you're allowed at least one cheap shot!

  • BenWilson,

A Serious question-What if the movie(s) are crap and tank at the box office? Do we get our money back? Just askin' cause everyone seems to be assuming that they'll be LOR huge.

What money were we putting up again?

Theory: the longer you attend university, the more you become convinced that you have no idea about anything. Or is that just me?

  • Ross Mason,

    @Andre

The bill does not say that the games must be associated with the (or any) "Film" at all.

If you read it it just says "video games". Period. Therefore in my simple brain it does NOT exclude Sidhe and their ilk who solely develop "video games". And it includes a definition of video as well that has to include any "moving picture" whether it is compiled or not.

It is obvious that WETA got the ear of the govt to include it in the bill 'cos they are into designing and buildling "games" associated with films.

It is an inclusion into the bill of something that was certainly not in the intent of the legislation.

I suggest that it is a first step to....who knows where.

Edit: It could be a mistake I have to suggest.

I didn't realise that a knighthood 'sword' actually removed one's testicles. PJ should have told Warners to stop dicking us around or he would refuse to direct the movies.

Because he's such an irreplaceable director, isn't he? So much so he wasn't even originally going to do it.

  • Andre Alessi,

Turbine also has the licence for D&D Online... well, the Eberron universe at least.

Yep, they do. However Cryptic is next in line to release a D&D-based game with Neverwinter. since Bill Roper was supposedly tasked to mother that to fruition, and he's now left, I'm not sure how well things will turn out though.

11.5 years of full time tertiary education and 3 degrees later, I know enough to know that this theory is entirely correct.

  • Richard Aston,

My fault for not going to university, I guess.

I'm with you Russell, I didn't finished anything at University but did drive the rubbish truck at Auckland Uni for 4 years - learned a lot from that - the rubbish was 80% paper , 20% dead rats ( from the psych labs) , I learned a University needs a lot of rats.

What, too tenuous? Somehow feels like we're being screwed, just a little bit, but also kind of willingly.

  • tim,

All I can say about all this is that every time Helen Kelly opens her mouth she puts her foot in it..... note for Helen, maybe it might be beneficial to actually learn about the industry you are trying to represent eg her quote in Stuff about "film companies depriving workers on basic rights including sick leave and holiday pay"

    HELLO Helen!
Many of us are freelance & are quite happy about it thanks!
Never had sick leave & never had holiday pay, 20 years in the film industry & quite happy thanks... If I wanted to be institutionalised and have all those 'benefits' I wouldn't be working in the film industry.

    Please give it a rest

  • Neil Morrison,

I've found Helen Kelly's actions the most depressing out of all of this. Labour have for a while gone for short term expediency but Kelly had a reasonable reputation. Unions will never win on not knowing what they're talking about.
