Upside down, inside out – the direct effects of the Seddon earthquake.
And here’s a 3 day seismograph record of it and more particularly the continuing aftershocks from GeoNet’s Wellington seismometer 71 km from the main shock’s focus. These capturing the previous 24hours at about 6am Saturday, Sunday and today/Monday from top to bottom. Note changing vertical shaking scale – 60,000 on day 1 so the smaller aftershocks are filtered out, 10,000 on day 2, and 5000 on day 3 where I suspect the slight ‘noise’ on the time lines are all the smaller aftershocks around Mw 2 and less, rather than traffic and shoreline surf vibrations that may show when the shaking scale is down to a few hundred.http://www.wellingtonquakelive.co.nz/

Across the evaporating ponds of the Lake Grassmere saltworks - epicentre of the mainshock 6.6 magnitude out there in the lake just beyond the train/railway embankment, focus 8 km deep. On-topical?

I visited Te Papa two weeks ago, interested in the art but avoided the Impressionists show – it would be easy to mis-read it as being all about the Monet.Leaving late in the day, I took a shine to the view over the moat between the main building and ‘Bush City’.

I have one of the Owen G Glenn building, visited for first time on weekend. Like the way it is reflecting on itself, and really the building seems to be all about the sky.

Wah, 3 straight days of hot, and most importantly, dry and (mostly) sunny weather. Today's setting sun from the overbridge as I brought the wee one home from kindy.

Ouch. Glad I'm not in that car. But.... one Chinese word for train is 火车/huǒchē, literally character-for-word "fire vehicle". An appropriate name for your cosy car?
