I thought I had the same churchlet somewhere. Early 90s.

On the same film found these zoo photos. The lions in their old enclosure, and the dearly departed Kashin, with the young buck Burma, as I recall.

Those are magnificent. From Burma's size there I'm guessing they were taken in late 1993 or 1994, when they'd not long been in their new enclosure. Kashin was a sweet-natured soul who was plagued by foot trouble in her last years. Some claimed that it was from being forced to stand on concrete. She appears to be taking the weight off her affected left rear foot in that last shot.

Yes, that's exactly right. Cheers Joe. We have a great fondness for Kashin round here too, with my bestest doing work for the zoo through the 90s, and spending much of our children's younger years visiting most weeks.

    Here's another.

Can you see the tower blocks less than 500 metres away? Me neither...

And I can make this tower block much more visible in the photo than it is in reality. On the landscape setting the camera wouldn't take this photo, and I suspect that's because it couldn't "see" the building I was focussing on (hint: Not the closest one with the solar water heaters - guess those families won't be getting much hot water today).

Wow Chris, it’s a pea-souper. Hope not too hard to breath.

It’s improving. Missing buildings are reappearing. I think the sun is buring off the fog (雾/wù) component of today’s weather (雾霾, in which the 霾(mái) is officially translated as “haze”). And fortunately my asthma’s never really been bothered by smog.

Actually, that first one acquired a pretty interesting colour simply by being converted to a .jpg.

(Is hakuna matata actually Swahili, as the note in Chinese at the bottom of the poster says? Apparently, yes.

    Nice sign Chris!

This pic suffers from being turned to black and white, so I've left it with the yellow and red showing. Puzzled by the orientation of the figures...
