  • Gudrun Gisela,

System files selective? Fair enough. Cheers.

Mum and Dad investors? Who's mum and dad?

By mum & dad investors, they really meant Bernard & Ruth.

I could not agree more with you. The average consumer in this country is busy paying bills and wot not unable to save anything from their income . So the Mums and Dads will be related to overseas company directors and high income earners who will be able to take part.

  • Rob Stowell,

In this vein, the latest ad from the Obama campaign is a cracker-

Would like to see Labour/*someone in the opposition* running a hard-hitting media campaign around asset sales. Surely there's footage somewhere of JK buying and selling- and making himself a wealthy lad- as a trader.

That's why he can't see what he's doing.
Or, as I said to Winston the other evening. "He swapped his ugly glasses for a pair of contact lenses and a cute smile"

Logs for China. Yes I know it does occupy at least ten people in the port to get them on a ship but is wrong with us? Young teenage people sitting around unemployed when they could be fashioning fabulous furniture out of this and then sell it to China. Put those on the ships and get this economy going.

Silently huge ships slip away with NZ raw products when in reality they ought to have been turned into items made in NZ by New Zealanders.

The port is the only place you see a constant flow of trucks going hither dither and yon.
Mostly they go to platform where they unload logs .

The restaurant business in Lyttelton is at least a welcome change. In particular this one. Freemans on London Street a delightful place to call in for almost Italian as the menu stated. Charming and welcoming staff and value for money.

  • Lilith __,

I don’t rate the tsunami siren! Out here in Sumner it would not have woken me, and I wouldn’t have heard it at all if I’d had the stereo on. The volunteer firefighters and the coastguard have sirens that are worthy of the name. We need LOUD, dudes.

Edit: Ah, I’m not the only one. And:

Civil defence and emergency management manager Murray Sinclair said the sirens were only meant to be heard up to 600 metres away from the coast, and were not designed to penetrate walls.

” We had volunteers around; some of the feedback they’ve picked up is that some people just couldn’t hear it at all, or only just … but if you were outside, you heard it fine."

So…house-dwellers will perish. Those in tents will live.
