The tree! I will give up my in-print carelessness -- guess I need a good sub(editor).

Irony on my part ;-) I have been known to run a red pen over an epic or two...

Back to the Red Tree - looks like it might be something called a Wax Tree - Rhus succedanea. Nearest match in a gardening book anyhow : )

Thank you. Loevly colour. I am moving into planting trees in our front yard and having initially though of natives, I am now leaning toward autumn colour. Dogwoods are on my list; though perhaps that is because I have read too many Patrick White books.

moving into planting trees
Great, planting trees is a bit like choosing tattoos. They're going to be with you a long time. I planted a Gordonia 20 years ago and it is still only the size of a large shrub. The best tree of all would combine great colour in all seasons, fab flowers, great scent, amazing fruit and attract interesting birds and butterflies!
The Gordonia has just started flowering for the autumn/winter, here's the first Fallen Gordonia.

Are these flowers anywhere south of the Bombay Hills?

Lovely image . Where is it? Just roughly. I am not stalking.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, this is the most awesome snow video. Arthur's Pass.

Technically north... I am just north of Sydney in Australia. Loving your beautiful images in the snow - I can feel it's snowing somewhere south of here but we are too close to the coast.
