On the way to pick up these yummy ice cream mooncakes we saw a poster for Esquires, allegedly New Zealand’s No. 1 coffee, all fair trade coffee. We’re always keen to at least find out whether NZ businesses here are worth supporting (NZ Natural Ice Cream, love your products, not such great fans of your prices), so we checked out. Round the corner onto the east face of The Place, and here it was. The interior, however, was much like any other Beijing cafe of its ilk – nice, trendy but not too much, comfortable, but a touch lacking in individuality. The menu didn’t offer much in the way of specifically Kiwi stuff, although it did have a long black (in Chinese, simply 黑咖啡/hēi kāfēi – black coffee). ’Twas good though. Good enough I’ve still got a bit of a buzz on 2 hours later, though of course, driving home through Beijing traffic helped.
And the music was so groovy and Mummy’s drink so yummy the wee one just had to dance.
ETA: as Esquires' logo says, great coffee helps. Certainly does.

Oh, sorry, forgot to add: Happy Moon Festival everybody! Remember to check out the moon this evening, weather permitting.

Thanks Islander.
Very wet by West Coast standards? Sounds like the kind of weather that would wash us all out into the Bohai Sea. Do stay dry, safe and warm.

Thank you! My driveway is now 20cm under water (which means my garage is also that wet - from long experience, my fridge & freezer perch a yard above the ground...
And I have -not only a Kent logburner and a Gourmet range -but! Also! a very good woodshelter with lotsa firewood ((arrgh! It's shaky heart totara) and a coalbin...we do have to support both polluting industries...she adds, dubiously...(solar power hasnt taken on here...)

Cripes, Islander, if I were living down your way I think I'd just buy a houseboat!

Islander, in reply to
Thank you Lilith!
I’ll try to (it’s the Coast so we know how to prepare for floods & earthquakes…)
-will be headed south on Tuesday – so may be a catchjup (oops! but um, quite like it) could still be possible later in the week? Hebe?) -
Islander, in reply to
Goodness knows ,Chris ,how often I have tried to persuade DoC that I could have a contained/environmentally-friendly house-boat on the lagoon…their persuasive response is – if I did, so would others…
That is my totally ideal way of living…hey! I’d swap a Moeraki section for anchor rights in an East Coast (S.I) southern lagoon…

Lovely to see the fruit and veg coming on so vigorously, Jos. And those wrestling peas! Or perhaps they're helping each other up. :-)
