So, what was this legal challenge that resulted in the "name must be said aloud" practice?
-
Or not telling Work and Income you've found work until you get paid, because otherwise they cut your benefit off immediately leaving you with no money to eat/ pay rent / get to your new job until the first payday occurs.

Thank you for this, Graeme. Quite interesting, from my legal geek perspective. Seems like there's a legislative fix or two required!
Which will probably end up being done by private members bills entered into the ballot by backbench government MPs!

Hard News: Helen Kelly's letter, in reply to
What puzzles me is why there such a profound opposition to medicial marijuana from the Beehive? Is it really that much of a vote losing issue?
I guess Curia would know...

OnPoint: My last name sounds Chinese, in reply to
By making the headlines about buyers with Chinese surnames, instead of the broader issue of non-residents buying property, Labour now his the risible Nick Smith leading the news bulletin, accusing them of playing the race card.
It was Labour who chose this lede. Not Smith. Not the media. Labour.
-
...and, oh look, Nick Smith's calling out Labour for "playing the race card". Right or wrong, what other way was focusing on race by choosing to focus on Chinese supposed to play out?
This really is spectacularly stupid politics from Labour.

Polity: House-buying patterns in Auckland, in reply to
Exactly, Sacha. I know Rob's a smart man, and I like to think many in Labour are... so why make this specifically about Chinese, why make it about race when the big issue didn't need to be?
-
If the debate about "is this or is this not racist" is distracting from the important issue of non-residents buying Auckland housing, then that's because Phil Twyford and Labour chose to make the headlines of this story about race. When it didn't need to be, at all.
