The Police are obviously confused. Switched on Gardener sells everything you need to grow and enjoy lettuce and other salad vegetables at home, including this $895 "Easytosser Salad Pro-Manual Bowl Trimmer": http://bit.ly/d0Xdbt

Sigh... a lifetime of insightful tweets and posts and this is what I'll be remembered for.

The wording of the question is up to the petitioner. Whether or not it becomes a CIR depends upon whether or not 10% of voters think it should. Democracy has always replied upon the wisdom of crowds - you have to take the crunchy with the smooth, as Billy Bragg might once have said.

Nice one the first time voter. I was in New York for their last election (which, sadly, meant missing ours, but there you go). The night before, I attended an only-in-America event: a political theatre production "honoring" first-time voters. 40 of them sat at the back of the stage while a cast of Broadway and TV's finest presented sketches, poems, readings and heartfelt tributes to the 40 young people who were about to become voters. It's easy to forget this is a country where people were dying for their political views within most Americans' lifetimes – hearing from people who lived through Alabama did more than remind me. Walking in I was standard issue Kiwi cynic; by the end of it I was hugging strangers with the best of them.
Would something like this work in New Zealand. Maaaaaybe. Hope so. That Pt Chev applause has me thinking what-if.

Must remember to drink _after_ posting next time.

Excellent post. It's astounding this didn't get more than a mention in other media (open to correction on this). I admit I glossed over it too when it popped up in the Herald... I must have been fixated on the success of Getacross. But seriously... what if Mr Poors doesn't like what he sees?
Mr P: "I'm afraid with that level of social spending you're only good for a B, Bill."
Bill: "Does that say THREE new hospitals? That must be a typo. It's meant to say none."
Mr P: "That'll do nicely, thanks. More dolphin sashimi?"

Damn! I thought I'd be the first person to seize upon the Turducken angle (I know, it's just a common noun, but I feel like it deserves the capital.) I cooked one in my Weber. It was good. For the record, the chicken received a cornbread stuffing and the spaces between the chicken and duck and duck and turkey were filled with a chorizo and breadcrumb concoction.
Cool 12 hours. Serves 30.
Here's the beast, mid-carve:
