Anyone really believe that this is going to end up as anything that's in any way better than (or different to) the viaduct?
"Public space" was the catchcry back then too.

As someone who has spent many, many early mornings in the CBD this ad is hilarious.
I especially like all the food being carried around, by hand, outdoors.

Sorry, but I don't see any vast right-wing conspiracy in that.
Perhaps that's because no-one's talking about such a thing.
With your talk of "illuminati elites" and "burn the capitalist citadel" you guys appear to be imposing a subtext which, frankly, I fail to see in Russel's post.
In fact he was very specific about the narrow group of interested parties who are set to benefit from the proposed changes.
But damn the issues, pedantry shall rule the day!

I'm hearing a lot of "yeah, he's quite right, but the language is so embarrassingly unfashionable" on this thread.
And what you're going to get is local govt which is quite wrong but couched in fashionable terms.
So then you'll be happy, yeah?

I heard some pretty appalling radio coverage of the events in Napier.
Across three stations, the same volley of gunfire was described (within 2 minutes) as "5 shots", "7-15 shots" and "20 shots", all by reporters at the scene.
One reporter describing the L.A.Vs: "These are basically REALLY BIG TANKS".
The winner though was the complete champ was who had "just been chatting with police commissioner Greg O'Connor" which is a bit like mistaking Brian Tamaki for the Pope.

That sort of thinking leads, almost inevitably, to the home Cocktail Bar.
Nah, it leads to home distilling. And that can be a dangerously fun place to be lead to.

...amateur cosmetic surgeons...
A truly disturbing thought.

I'd wager the emissions from the late model diesel SUV are a lot lower than the comparable emissions from the average poorly maintained family wagon.
Possibly, but there's a hell of a lot more than emissions to consider.
The amount of resources consumed in manufacturing big, heavy SUVs with big, heavy engines, wheels, tyres, panels and everything else is enormous compared to the manufacturing of small, light vehicles.
It's also a bit of a false choice to compare the emissions of an old, poorly maintained station wagon with a new SUV as no-one driving a new SUV is considering swapping it for an old, poorly maintained car.
The relevant comparison is between a new SUV and a new light, efficient car. Or between an old, poorly maintained car and an old, poorly maintained SUV.

Then thought it was probably something I didn't want to know more about.
And yet...
