I spend an inordinate amount of time in airplanes and one way I try to keep sane while flying is to document the view out the window. I put it all up on my tumblr, http://theviewfromthewindowseat.tumblr.com/. Lots of blue, with some crimson, peach and generous smatterings of white too. This is an example from a recent flight over the north pole, catching the "belt of venus" at sunrise.

But some days, there's not a cloud in the sky, and the blue is so strong it almost hurts.

Although even when some of the sky is blue, there's often clouds lurking, even directly at sea-level.

...and then I realized there are at least one or two clear days each year. Last 4th of July we were lucky with the weather. "Oh say can you see....?"

Great theme. Coming from Seattle, I thought I would be at a disadvantage on this subject. Generally our skies look like this. Blue, but not the clear azure of the original intent...

A shot over the Pacific, where it is the great water to the west. Winter was back in January and this was a stormy evening trying to catch razor clams. They are more elusive than you might think.

Tokyo Tower. Holga WPC120 pinhole f138, ~20-40mins?. That bright streak in the center is the full moon traversing the frame, and if you look carefully you can make out the writing around the 'lens' reflecting on the hotel window through which this was shot.
