Currently being trialled, low income workers who qualify for universal credits (in work tax credits) have to demonstrate that they are seeking to improve their situation. For those on less than 35 hours a week, this requires weekly or fortnightly meetings at the job centre, plus several hours each week must be spent searching for an additional job. Missing the appointment results in a fine. Missing your appointment because you were working is not an acceptable excuse! .
