My friend David notes another odd aspect to the 'news' feed about your friends changes in status and so forth.
What does it mean when it says, for example, "Keith Ng has removed Virginia Andrews 'Flowers in the Attack' from his favourite books list"? Does it mean he re-read and didn't find it as good as he did the first time, or that he doesn't like the statement it's making about him, or what?

Thank NI, I was pretty happy with it, particularly the editing work.
To be fair, they answered that question but in trying to fit the rise/fall/rise into a 5 minute story, there was only so much I could say about the fall...
But from what they said to me (on camera, but not in the final cut) it was that when the tax bill came due, the downturn (and a couple of things not going as they should have) meant the money they'd expected to be there for the bill, wasn't. I don't think they exactly 'forgot', although perhaps the IRD wasn't as high up the priority list as it should've been.
I found them both very open, and I'm happy enough to take them at their word on all that. I'd like to think that the fact that their artists and distributor labels have largely stuck with them, and that they had a decent amount of investor interest post-liquidation suggests they had done something right.

And as I'm all for neologisms, can anyone tell me whether the process of going through your friend's friends to see if they know anyone hot is called?
My, er, friend wants to know.

Dude, turn off the notification emails! I was driven crazy by those within a day and turned them all off.
But then how will I know the instant someone sends me a message?
MySpace is like going to a crowded party and being stuck in a corner. You know some friends of yours are at the party, but the only people who seem to come over and talk are some models
Yeah I'm sick of those parties too. The ones when I can't find my friends and models keep coming up and talking to me...
...God I miss Auckland

Just to put paid to any rumours (I have been working flat out today, hadn't read PA and wondered why people kept asking me how I got home from the Labour do...)
... I didn't go to the Labour do.
However I was at the Matterhorn when the assorted dregs (Mr Garner included) arrived, and all I can say is that it was disturbingly early - like around 10ish. They'd all been kicked out apparently, unlike the Nat do a couple of weeks ago, which went well into the night (and which I attended).
Not saying this makes the Nats better than Labour or anything, but they sure are far more Popular and Competent when it comes to a piss-up.

Oh! SO now you're implying we're all alcoholics!
I don't think it was implied at all, was it? It was fairly explicit, especially in the printed version. Wellingtonians. Are. A. Bunch. Of. Pissheads.
Actually, Jackie just reminded me of ANOTHER of my favourite things about living in Wellington. Marsden Girls.
(For the sake of clarity and avoiding the DIA seizing my hard-drive, I should point out I'm talking about girls that used to go to Marsden, and are now my age, or at least an acceptable standard deviation or two thereof. Not girls who are still at Marsden.)

This has been bugging me since Page One and I can't take it anymore. Can someone please change the heading to it's correct title
Yeah sorry that was my bad. Typo in the original blog post, and when I corrected that, it didn't correct the System title. I've been rummaging around out the back, but I can't seem to find the thingamyjig to get it right.
(But maybe you should just take a few deep breaths, it's probably not the end of the world :)
The weather in Wellington has turned from farking cold Southerly to very rainy Northerly in the last day. Oh the joy of winter. Still, it meant a nice Sunday spent with a fire and blankies drinking at the Southern Cross. As I said in that Metro piece, Wellington does do the hunkering down in bars thing particularly well.

I never said They did. I said that They recognise it's too late to do anything about it, which I guess does pre-suppose the fact that if it wasn't, they would. But do you really think that if alcohol was introduced today, rather than arriving with the white man, it would get past Jim's eagle eyes?
Jim's certainly shown he's keen to up the tax on liquor favoured by minors even if it also hurts the oldies who like sherry; and as you pointed out above, the Govt has made all sorts of moves with regards to cigarettes - not prohibition, no - so in both those regards They are suggesting They know far better than you what's good for you.
-
Secondly, 'they' do not want to ban alcohol.
Is that what They said when you asked Them?
-
I sort of disagree. Yes, the overt argument is one of harm causation but the underlying, emotional, argument is "your drugs are evil and mine aren't".
I don't see how that disagrees with what I'm saying at all, in the sense that I totally agree with what you're saying :)
Bottom line, They don't want us to get high, but it's too late to do anything about the bolted horses of Alcohol and Cigarettes.
