Hard News: Democracy Night, in reply to
I am struggling with this outcome too, as almost to a person those who I spoke with who voted Labour traditionally, were all going to vote Goldsmith in an attempt to rout the yellow peril. There was no shortage of discussion and commitment about voting strategically..maybe they bailed in the booth.

Love ideas 1,2 and 3 and in concert does seem like a good policy platform. Selling TVNZ does provide the opportunity to set aside some of the return for retention/establishment and say 3/5 yr operational funding for Ch 7, and setting up one or two more channel options i.e a kids channel (or reclaim Kidzone), a SBS type channel etc - a better outcome then we've been getting from the so called Charter and as you say the dividends
The levy to keep shows going /to create new ones/maybe fund content purchases?
If the levy if fulsome enough and Freeview is the delivery mode then the the must pay/play option may be harder to get over the line. -
Don Brash is seventy. John Banks is sixty five. Roger Douglas is seventy five. ...
I wonder if this will mean the Parliamentary budget for adult incontinence pants will need to be vastly increased?

Great post...I'll be busy playing with all that maths from the Science of Sport. Who knew the 100m was analysed to that level ?.

Reading the Observer link above couldn't help but think a similar thing is happening here in NZ with more people making the NPC their live rugby fix.
It is cheaper, people seem to feel more connected to it, in part due to their provincial identity they carry around or have selected and there are even games in the afternoon, quelle horreur.

Yay a great opener of a game for NPC2009. A come from behind win to hold on to the Sheild. This seems so more satisfying than S14

Seems that any tumour in the head area that's not cancer is the best one to have. After the same round of opto' tests inclduing the Visual Field, was diagnosed with a pituitary macroadenoma "the best one to have" apparently.
Seriously tho, if surgery (and private at that) is an option, can unreservedly recommend Andrew Law as a neurosurgeon (based at Ascot in AKL).
I thought the surgery was going to involve all sorts of skull drilling etc but they went in via the nose and sinus cavities and dealt to it. In on Friday, home on Monday.Wishing you all the best.

Not read any of the press about the detail of NPC changes …but it looks compact and does have its own season window, esp. for the finals
Having a small Div 1 with only 6 teams makes playing home and away seems like the right way to find the 2 most consistent teams to play a final to take on the promotion “chalice”.
Round robin is an effective option for the Heartland, given the financial resources of the unions themselves and allows players in these unions to get a good number of games above local club level. Having recently starting watching club rugby in lieu of S14 on TV for the more involving experience, the NPC - are they still calling it that? – takes on some more interest, seeing which standout young club players are making it into these teams -
Thanks Hayden for actually making the pro netball exciting. I struggle to get into it on TV, and the print press seem to be so dull with their reportage, the Waikato Times excluded. (Discliamer ex the 'Tron ,now in Auckland).
