Simply making use of military vehicles to do things for which the police lack the equipment isn't a devolution of powers.
Out of interest, what is considered to be military deployment? I presume we had soliders driving those, so is it the chain of command that triggers the requirement?

We wasted a life, hours of policetime, thousands of dollars on a low level drug bust
No we didn't. Jan Molenaar wasted a life, hours of policetime, thousands of dollars by unloading on police in his house. The reason for those police being there is almost completely beside the point.
Arguing for cannabis law reform off the back of this incident risks being as distateful as Mr O'Connor using it to argue for "more Tasers, faster".

Overreaction would've been following through on some of the more nutjob-like TBR caller suggestions. My favourite was dropping heavy things on the house from a helicopter, to crush it and the man within.
Ah yes, the Wile E Coyote approach to armed conflict resolution.
As for the LAVs opening fire - you'd know about it if they did. I think a 25mm cannon has a certain sound to it. I believe the police have said the ONLY thing they fired when retrieving the officer's body was tear gas? Don't take that as 100% though.

The Weekend Herald ran with four front page headlines under GUNNMAN DEAD (which was unconfirmed at the time they ran it apparently) with a dead policeman, booby-trapped houses, rescued dogs, robots and tanks. They clearly couldn't let one of those topics not make the headline.

opening up a farmers market in the area
How about in the bottom of the So-hole Square? Might as well make the damn thing useful...

They might -- can I hit them with a stick until they harden up?
Now THAT'S homoerotic =P

Website looks good, and the store a very interesting one. It's amazing what you can get by simply saying to someone who's life is in wine "I liked xxx and kinda want something that is not like butter but has like weight and stuff". Hard to do on the web and I wonder if tasting notes need to split into "Know what you're doing" and "Know what you like - kinda".
We've taken to a case-purchase from Blackmarket or Fine Wine or funy-little-contacts for the nightly swill, a pop to La Vino at the end of the road for something a little more interesting (Glengarry's Ponse Rd is also very good), and the annual trip to the family hut in Central for a more serious top up. I shouldn't think Wine Vault guy necessarily expects all your purchases to be through him.
