  • Hard News: A plot point is reached,

Because it’s a dodgy industry that needs regulation more than most?

I might be wrong, but hasn’t the racing portfolio traditionally, if unofficially, been linked to the sport & rec portfolio in the past?

    Jo S,

I’m a Spurs fan too, but I think it’s a while (early 90s?) since we finished 4th in the league

One thing for which I am grateful to McCain in delivering us this sideshow is that I had not been aware of an Alaskan secessionist movement. Are there many of these in the States?

Would make sense. Independent Republic of Alaska, Hawaii etc…

Florida’s probably big and strange enough to be its own country. Some Greater California going up the West Coast.

Texans have always been a bit different, so they can break off.

    New England.

And then all the flyover states can unite in some Fundamentalist Heaven on Earth.

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

One thing that baffles / annoys me is the way that right-of-centre commentators (including Paul Holmes) keep going on about how hot Palin is.

Even ignoring the sexism of that, I just can’t see what they see…

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

Given the title of this post, RB, a brief nod in the direction of the Warriors, and their achievement this last weekend, might have been in order!? ;-)

Lol; so that would be finishing bang middle of a 15-team competition then?

And staring at a thrashing next week…

Pretty sure all ANZC teams run at a loss. It’s just that the S14 franchise bases can underwrite it with their profits from that competition.

    And there’s your problems.

  • Hard News: At home with the art-hackers,

…or imagine if they had kids with names like Track, Trig, Bristol (my favourite), Willow and Piper…

And people used to criticise Paula Yates for so much less.

BTW, wouldn’t moose meat be pretty rubbery and horrible?

The difference between the English Championship play-offs and the old NPC play-offs is that in the Championship it is between themselves. 3 go down from The Premiership automatically.

The old NPC play-offs were unfair in that one side had been playing at a totally different level from the other.

And to make it even more lop-sided the Div 1 team got the home advantage.

Hawkes Bay, who always seemed to qualify for this match, and always lost, have subsequently proved they are actually of Div 1 standard.

    Or cricket during rugby season?

    I really, really hope that’s a wind-up HG.

It’s well documented that test cricket is no longer played at 3 of the 4 traditional venues in this country now because of a thing called Super Rugby. And we’re talking about Feb / Mar here. Most neutrals would agree that’s the cricket season.

And recently we had the case of an ODI not being able to be played at Carisbrook in the middle of Feb because of a rugby match.

But if you can give an example of a rugby game being shifted in Aug / Sep because of cricket you may have a point…

about maybe regionalising at least some of the npc (it used to be, too)

Only when playing aginst touring sides.

The Vikings and Tasman have proved that, over time, that does not work.

Provincial pride is too entrenched in NZ rugby, and that is no bad thing.
