My advice to the BoTs would be to either a) photocopy as poorly as they can the relevant sections from the return to BoT and snail mail to Fairfax on the the 19th day and advise said Mr H that the info is in the mail or b) print relevant section using Acrobat with select/copy/print etc disabled. In both cases Fairfax have to manually transcribe the info and along with the range of formats they will be receiving etc should make the job reasonably tiresome.

This weeks journey of music discovery - a friends FB post about Robert Altman's "OC & Stiggs" and the King Sunny Ade music in the movie has had me wending my way around online, sampling and buying appealing west African 70 and 80's grooves and psychodelia. I like these journeys and how innocuously they can start, they feel like Alice down the rabbit hole sometimes.

Whooo that's telling it like it is. At least some of the Japanese will have some physical smashing experiences coming soon - what with Jerome K and SBW in their midst.

throw drunk belligerent people in the drunk tank for a few hours and send them away with a fine
And how about along with the fine or in lieu, they are made to help clean up the street, loos etc in the cold grey light of dawn to provide some opportunity for that self reflectiveness.

Hard News: Briefing, blaming, backing down, in reply to
Does John Roughan live in a gated community by any chance?
Yes The "his fevered imagination" Gardens

Thanks Russell for putting into words my feelings re Roughans column. My reaction to reading the column on Saturday morning was rather more visceral and had he appeared before me during the day I would have been afraid of what I might have done to him.

.. the energy of the world’s best and brightest over the past two decades has gone…
into endless patent litigation and defense tactics around every new nuance of an idea/concept/IP stifling advances that could provide compound results.

I don't why I did this, but as a teenager in 1981 I sat in the Gisborne Public Library over a number of days during the school holidays and read the RC report in its entirety. Coupled with the Springbok Tour of that year, my lifelong cynicism of police and politicians can be assumed to have started from there.

So, France a country that has clearly transgressed NZ interests in the past has not had its publicly owned telecommunications company (Alcatel-Lucent) products stopped from being used to power the backbone of NZ internet infrastructure over the last 10-15 years so why the hoo haa about Huawei?
Transgressing on Echelon is a smoke screen and it serves the US/AU defense/intelligence community and its "marketers" (Mr Buchanan take a bow) to inflate that spectre. NZ is already not trusted with full Echelon access and if China really wanted access I'm sure with own satellites and technical capability they are most probably already snooping very well on their own. -
For a country that supposedly has Rugby as its "national" game we have been poorly served by new or updated stadia in our key population centres such as Eden Park, Wellington, Old AMI. Waikato Stadium is one place I enjoy because it is a stadium built around a rectangle (no!) with no silly arcs or curves to supposedly to accommodate cricket. My nosey peek into the new Dunedin Stadium looks like it'll be a good rugby watching ground too, although it does still look temporary in many places.
