The kind of idiot that knew that the original draft would go down like a cup of cold sick. And so thought they could make this change, and then point to it and say "see we listened to you during the consultation process".
Yep. They present a huge, steaming turd. We complain that it's a huge steaming turd. They take it away, stick a pretty candle in it, and present it again. We think it's better than the last version, so we accept it. Nice to see that even our legislation is held together with number 8 wire. Sigh.

Mates rates?

The fat exists. It's just that they are, for some reason, choosing to look in the wrong places.

"there are clever ways to not pay as much tax via setting up trusts??" who knew?
Most people in the top tax bracket who have an accountant with anything resembling a pulse, from my experience. Which, admittedly, isn't all of them.

What sort of average are they talking about? Mean? Median? Or Made Up?

It's ok. Now we can grow them in a test tube, and select for yummy-ness. Hopefully some of that science and technology money our government has been shouting about will go towards this sort of research.

Try them sous vide. Beautiful!

Don't they only go black if you overcook them?

Pickled kakapo is the only dish for the serious connoisseur.
Guess I'm not up there with the great and the good then. I prefer simpler fare, such as tuatara eggs on a bed of Cyathea dealbata - obviously served by the poor (when they're not too busy rorting the welfare system. Because that's what they all do.)
Edit: Oh very well, here's a '/sarcasm'.

He'll get a shiny thruppence if he does a good job.
I hope you can claim back the GST.
Also I assume the little one is going to issue a proper invoice, and that this thruppence is going to go through their accounts? I'd hate to see them avoiding paying tax on that.
