If they succeed in having the local price of milk pegged to a local price cap, can we have the same for seafood? We've had to pay 'export prices' for fish for years, making it very expensive. The obvious argument is that seafood isn't a 'staple' like milk/dairy to which I say ... why is that?
Seafood is a 'luxury' because it is so expensive. But imagine if it was cheaper meaning you could eat it 3-4 nights a week. That would be a lot healthier for our society than the crap we eat now. (Presuming everyone doesn't get their seafood servings by buying crumbed fishsticks at the supermarket).

The original quotation comes from the 1948 film The Treasure of the Sierra Madre with Humphrey Bogart. In one of the scenes in the movie a Mexican bandit leader (Gold Hat played by Alfonso Bedoya) is trying to convince Fred C Dobbs (played by Bogart) and company that they are the Federales.
Dobbs: 'If you're the police where are your badges?'
Gold Hat: 'Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges! I don't have to show you any stinkin' badges!'This in turn was adapted from B Traven's 1927 novel upon which the movie was based:

:-) I wouldn't believe everything you hear either. Mediterranean? We are talking South America for Coca leaf. I don't think exporting the leaf is big business for cocaine manufacturing. Bulky. I imagine quantity may be the issue for your friend.
__Quality__, not quantity surely? It's easier to get coke to the Carribean therefore less expensive than getting it to the Med. So the Med coke will be cut (diluted) to recover the transport costs. Bit like Auckland in the 80s (or was I just totally ripped off?) which was much weaker than Sydney.

Yes but there's another subtext. Ralston agrees with you that the venue/conference was legitimate; but then he goes on to suggest Clark kowtowed to popular opinion, forcing Street to eat the words she said the day before in defence of her ministry.
Once again the Government threw a ministry to the wolves, which goes a long way to explaining why we have a timid, risk-averse public service. Once, there was a principle of ministerial responsibility and ministers defended their public servants. Now, public servants are easy and regular scapegoats when the political heat goes on.
Clark could have chosen to stick with Street and tough it out, maintaining that the conference was cost effective and legitimate. Instead she caved quickly, giving creedence to National's campaign claims that there is too much tax money wasted on govt services/bureacracy.
(But in Clark's defence I also wonder if she had any choice but to buckle; given that the media seemed hellbent to push this issue in one direction only. The MSM: Never let the facts or the maths get in the way of the 'angle'.)

I'm all for full representation but is lowering the threshold for getting a party into Parliament really going to help the process? How bogged down will we get if we have seven minority parties-of-one? Ditto for a 'Senate' - how does that help the process of getting laws enacted? It doesn't seem to have achieved anything in the UK and US ... one side is always blocking the other.

My word yes, that was very impressive. I too thought the NZOA funding was tenuous, but I'm more than happy to overlook it since the final product was so good. I'm surprised more hasn't been said by the critics, but I think Nick's got a big future ahead of him in broadcasting. (And I knew he spoke Japanese, but Portuguese as well!!?? WTF :)

In my own defence: while I could grasp the concept of modern technology making starting your own radio station easier, I just couldn't get a handle on the actual technology. But not this kid. He's just gone ahead and done it
