Oh, I don't know: could paleogism be the new word of the year?
For the record, it's paleologism.

Fiction writers can't use footnotes? Maybe some fiction would have its flow spoiled by footnotes. Endnotes maybe?
Infinite Jest? Of which a large proportion of the 300+ endnotes are citations to a pharmacological dictionary (ab)used by one of the characters to find new and novel ways to get off his nut... and the rest are bits of narrative left out of the main text specifically to mitigate spoilage of the flow. Bastard of a book to actually read though, wonderful as it is.

a concert isn't like the CD at home which you turn down to talk over, and the sound is never going to be as pristine as that shiny disc
But there's a certain point on the gig spectrum these days, where there's enough money for decent PA gear but the venue is small enough for some intimacy, where the two are getting pretty close. Sonic Youth's ATP gig on the shore a year or two ago was like that - we sat in comfy seats, listening to crystal-clear sound at a comfortable level, watching four middle-aged people playing a 70-minute album from start to finish. It was more than a bit unnerving, but SY are energetic enough and Daydream Nation sufficiently noisy and chaotic that it never quite got boring.

..."we" have decided the fashion model is meant to be some kind of sex object/desirable form.
But when we see models selected purely on grounds of sexual "desirability" (eg. "glamour" models and porn stars), they tend to look very unlike a walking coathanger. Not that I'm endorsing the way they do look...

Budding property developer
I always laugh when someone uses that phrase, as if there are some kinds of people who can only reproduce asexually.

In 1989 the Vatican issued a document saying the practice of Eastern traditions like yoga "can degenerate into a cult of the body,"
Until last year my son had weekly yoga at his (Catholic) primary school. As far as I know it had all spiritual overtones stripped from it completely...

If a European youth was found vandalising property: "We'd probably say `Hey, what are you doing? That's not really the white way'."
I'm waiting for them to try this, and see where it gets them. I'm also imagining them seeing a PI youth vandalising property and saying "Goodo, carry on son, that's the brown way".

I'd rather our news organisations stick to clear, factual reporting, and leave me to do my own editorialising.
Are you saying that some kind of qualitative analysis has no place in the news media? It is called editorial-ising after all. I thought the problem is that our media is shit at it.
