You know what? Fuck BSG*: if I want to watch 'Rock of Love II' and talk about Daisy the stripper's desperation for Bret Michaels as a political allegory for the financial crisis, that's my call. And whoever doesn't like it: up their nose with a rubber hose.
I agree. People can watch what they like and they're free to find whatever message they want in what they watch.
But the rest of us should also be free to ridicule them for it. Good-naturedly of course.
It's the gentle mockery of others that makes this site so enjoyable.

You should, however, immediately rush out to JB Hi-Fi on Queen St and buy the entire series. DO IT NOW!
How can I sneer at other people and their fantasy/sci fi obsessions if I'm buying the DVDs too? Don't you see my dilemma?

I'm not one to rain on anyone's parade, but what is it with this BSG lovefest? Sure it may be a great show (though I've never watched it, so wouldn't have a clue), but are people maybe just reading too much into it?
I'm sure people used to say the same things about Star Trek. Some people probably still do (hopefully none of them are PAS readers)
I know I'll be shot to pieces for saying this. Which is why I have my elephants ready.

Obama has about the worst job in the world, although his soaring rhetoric during the election campaign perhaps encouraged people to believe he was the Second Coming. No doubt his popularity ratings will tank in the short term, as people lose their jobs and houses.
But he should take comfort from the example of another president who stepped into an unholy mess not of his making, and was hugely unpopular for most of his presidency. His name was Lincoln.
Being popular with the media and the Republican party really isn't important in these times.

Besides which, its not like we're discussing Star Trek fantasy furpile orgies, or anything
No, apparently we prefer to do it with elephants.

Maybe, just maybe, if people were more interested in history than fantasy then we might not be in this mess.
I for one am more interested in history than fantasy, but my readings of Julius Caesar's campaigns in Gaul do not inform me on how to deal with the current crisis - unless the answer is to lead an army across France burning and looting as we go.

I never much liked the Beatles, but I really loved their work as individuals, or in Paul's case, with Wings. Yes, I loved Wings. And how can you not give Ringo props for Thomas the Tank Engine? I could listen to that voice, all day. But my favourite one is George. I loved George.
I guess I'll have to disagree with you. Had the Beatles all gone down in a fiery plane crash in 1970 the world might now be a better place. Instead we are left with the Travelling Willburies, Mull of Kintyre and Ebony & Ivory.

On a completely different track: what was that final score in the Blues vs Chiefs game on Saturday again?
Cut the Blues some slack. If it had been the Olympics they'd have been given a silver medal, and everyone would be cheering them right now.

What, are you kidding me? They just achieved a little something called a Grand Slam Six Nations win pal.
Forgive me if I don't dance the jig in celebration. Only two of the 6 nations have beaten the All Blacks in the last 50 years. Ireland isn't one of the two.
Mind you, Rogernomics was in full swing the last time we won the World Cup. Maybe Sir Roger is the answer to our current economic woes (choke)

Of course people will attack Obama. He's been in power two whole months and still hasn't solved the biggest economic crisis since the depression.
I mean, how long does it take for someone to say "abracadabra?"
