  • Hard News: Have you met thingy?,

Names are for getting a person's attention or identifying one person from another, not for throwing randomly into conversation with the person so named. I always feel like someone's trying to drum something home to me when they use my name when it's perfectly clear they're talking to me and nobody else

And while not wanting to drag things into the gutter.

The practice of saying someone’s name during intercourse is a particularly strange one.

I knew a guy whose substitute generic term was "rooter" for men and "chick" for women. e.g. "Gidday, rooter!"

    Bob Clarkson?

Fortunately MY fiancée has a distinctive name (she's Polish) that makes it rather unforgettable

That would also quite handy if you had a particular condition where you found vowels hard to remember.

No that can't be right. Canterbury skipped both Wellington and Waikato, both of which are franchise bases.

    Oh come on Kyle.

Canterbury rugby are famous for breaking all the rules.

It’s seeded so the 3 teams you miss out on are 1 from S14 franchise base, a middle-tier, and then an expansion team. It’s cyclical too. For example Wgtn didn’t play Auckland last year, this year it was the Cantabs.

All fine in theory, but with Hawkes Bay being twice as good as Auckland makes it unfair in practice.

For me personally the irony is that I'm always banging on about how I'd go to lots of games if they had daytime kick-offs. Then this year they do - thanks to the floodlights being down for the reconstruction

Although the Wellington shield challenge only 2 weeks ago was at night.

You know the one; the one where Auckland failed to score or pick up a bonus point…

I think it's dreadful that Waikato have had so many quality loose forwards overlooked for the ABs over the years,

    That’s really funny.

  • Field Theory: Home and Away,

Sav showed himself up during the Olympic Games for pieces on consecutive nights complaining about Valerie Vili not giving interviews to the media a few days before her event. You know, because she said she’d rather concentrate on winning a gold medal. But Sav got surprisingly nasty about it.

So there’s a bullying streak there which, in the circumstances, is a bit ironic.

Does the Justin Marshall / Andy Ellis routine of poncing about at the back of a ruck / maul looking round like a mercat searching for rapidly diminishing options for 20 seconds count?

The offender appears to have no criminal history

Interesting point: has that been verified?
