I'm hoping we get a lot more dialog from the car. It's already reminiscent of the game Portal. If it were my car, I'd skin it with Gauntlet narration, personally: "Ben, your car-force is running out!". "Car needs power, badly!".

I got the impression the power rationing was actually an excuse for control rather than a reality. Currently the cost of running a plug in electric car is about $1 a day for a 50km round trip commute. Hard to think of anyone who owned a flash house not being able to afford that, even if the cost of energy increased 20-fold. They sure wouldn't be able to afford heating if so.

It's a wee bit disappointing to see yet another show populated entirely by Ponsonby-type characters

Seemed a lot more like Takapuna to me. I didn't see anyone living in a tiny 100 year old cottage and thinking that was choice. Nor was anyone apparently gay or artistic.

I couldn't get past that the (electric) car was restricted because of carbon credits, but all the doors opened via electricity and everything seemed to be well lit.

Transportation does use a lot more energy than lighting.

I was struggling to think how the average suburbanite could actually get any carbon credits at all.

As for the tracking chip in his brain, how long until our hero thinks of a tin foil hat?

Yes, that's true, but when what you need is a sonic screwdriver, a plain old flat-head is of no particular use.

There's an entire workshop in the Tardis.

On that note, is there a 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' iPad app? There should be.

There's better - Wikipedia. Cheaper than the Encyclopedia Galactica. Less evil than Encarta. And it has quite a bit about the Earth in it, unlike the Guide.

Apple users are all Timelords, both justified and ancient. Did you not know that?

I'd be keener to have what the Doctor drives around in than what he carries in his pockets. By far the coolest vehicle in all of speculative fiction.

I feel even more justified and ancient, having recently decided that these newfangled pens are just unreliable, and reverted to pencils.

(No, actually, it's because I cannot resist a good apocalypse, even if it's bizarrely tidy.)

You must watch Knowing then. Fast forward to the last 2 minutes, the scenes of total world destruction are visually appealing. The story is ridiculous, don't bother with it.

That was Kahlan (the one who can't act). Cara's the sarcastic, ex-evil blonde (the type without which no genre show is really complete.)

They had names? I really should have listened to the dialogue. Or should I?

(Not that the show was, generally, but as you say; plenty of eye candy and plenty of humour, sometimes intentionally. And Cara. I liked Cara.)

I couldn't help but to find her "blood rage" awfully arousing. The idea that she couldn't shag guys because she might have that happen seemed extremely pervy, in a good way.

What a curious experience to play a game that you couldn't understand the cues for.

Had that with a lot of games from Japan. Lots of garbled phrases stuck in my memory.

Yes, I think there were other clues in the game about the state of your character... Can't quite recall that aspect of it right now.

Well it actually had a 'tips' mechanic - each game, the first time something happened, it would pause the game and explain things "Use keys to open doors". "Eat food to gain health". But I can bet the humor of "I've not seen such bravery" when you were getting nailed badly might have been lost on a non-English speaker.
