Then one could hop off one's high horse, because one's tuckus is getting kind of sore.
back in oz they had a comedy show where a guy would climb up onto a high saw-horse and condemn things.
it was like rove's "what the?", but funny.
the one where he got stuck into "what about me?" was hilarious. you know, "what about me, it isn't fair, i've had enough and i want my share...<sob>".
response? "if you've had enough then it's surely from your share? do you want someone else's share? how fair would that be? hmmm?"
etc.

This is more fun than an after-school get together in Flaxmere…
end of the fields for a smoke?

2) Is there actually an argument here for the Register of Pecuniary Interests being a) more detailed and stringent, 2) having oversight completely independent of Parliament
on the first point i've heard that the register is being overhauled as we speak, and has been in the process for several months.
on the second, i think it's housed with the office of the clerk. i'm not sure where you'd want to move it to without spending money on a new, completely separate office.
(but my knowledge of this area is not substantial)

the people setting up the new party or signing the petition or even bombarding talkback radio were not likely to be Labour party voters in the first place.
true. it will be interesting to see how the incumbent government recovers any swing voters who have been adversely influenced by the negative publicity surrounding this issue.

You reckon Che? There are a lot of people who have & had no problem with that bill.
it would be interesting to see polling on the two issues.
for example, i can't see this issue resulting in the establishment of a new political party, or a multi-k signature petition.
but like you say, there might be a lot of disaffected voters out there just atm.

It is worth remembering that Labour sustained as much political damage through supporting a Green MP's private member's bill.
hear hear.
one could almost argue that they sustained more damage than the current fracas.

We had homebake, that I remember. It had a pretty bad rep with us though, and was regarded as largely being for idiots.
agreed.
and oddly enough, so was crystal meth.

Argh, that last story from Finn brought tears to my eyes. It was so hopeful.
i suspected as much.
there's no way i'm reading it at work.
most adult diagnoses are self-diagnoses. That doesn't mean they should be ignored.
unless they're that bloke mentioned david cohen's book, the guy who claimed be was "profoundly autistic". from david's description he was in actual fact... an asshole abusing a convenient excuse.

I choose not to understand what that means.
