I have a hunch that some MPs will change their voting for the next readings.
Which is why I think it's really important now to write to those MPs whom you suspect are really opposed, or luke-warm, and thank them for voting in favour. Just to be nice, of course. Yeah.

And I have put up a brief post at The Other Place. I've spent so very, very long arguing the facts on this. It seemed time to celebrate the emotional experience.

It says one gay MP voted against; I can count at least three.
"Straight" is in inverted commas, at least. And I'm not going to call anyone gay who doesn't openly identify as such.
I also can't criticise Finlayson for his vote. He believes God made him gay, but that homosexual sex is a sin, so he's celibate. That seems sufficient pain in his life.

all the Chch Nat MPs voted for, basically
dpf has the votes broken down by age, location, ethnicity, etc. Chch MPs were 11-2 for. (There is a comment thread. Consider yourselves warned.)

Or... no. Everyone's doing it tonight.

My god I love the internet. Here are the voting sheets. Thanks to dpf. Banks Dunne and Huo didn't vote.
WAIT. Twitter is saying Upston just handed in proxies for Banks and Dunne voting in favour. Dunno why that took so long.
That's 80. 80 For.
-
Woo! 78 for, 40 against. Higher than any predictions I'd seen.
I'm... going to finish getting drunk.

Even if there were a straightforward way of changing it, with a high success rate, it would be bad thing to do.
Whereas what they're currently using (lower on the emetics and electro-convulsive therapy than in the 80s) has a fairly low success rate and tends to make kids throw themselves off bridges.

Has anyone guessed at the timing of today's debate
Yeah, depends on how other debates go. Parliament today is saying debate between nine and ten? Kevin Hague said in Twitter before he was expecting a vote about half nine.

And if people haven't seen it, get some morning lulz by typing familyfirst.co.nz into your address bar.
Don't let your domain names lapse, people.
