I had some truly wonderful teachers at primary school: Miss Moriarty in J1, Mrs Lawrence in Std 1 and Mr Dobson in Std 3 were all fabulous, inspring and kind.
Then I had Mr Ward in Std 2. I don't think he quite scaled the heights of evilness David describes but he was pretty nasty. I was confident, talkative and opinionated - all apparantly dreadful traits in a small girl and he took against me in a big way. He'd do things like refuse to allow me to progress to the next level of school journal and then give me a lower than deserved mark in reading. It was made very clear that the only reason I didn't get the strap was because of my gender. Not that he'd have had the chance - I was under strict instructions from my parents that if he even looked like hitting me I was to get up from my desk and not stop running until I reached my mother's work.

See, wedding mad I am!
I do get liking weddings - I am totally in favour of wearing fabulous frocks, eating good food, getting presents and having a party with friends. It's the institution of marriage itself that I have doubts about.
I've often said I should throw a party with the theme Isabel-wears-something-stunning-and-everyone-gives-her-homewares.

My wedding was a blast. I'm told this by the few reliable witnesses sober enough to remember.
I have to admit that I don't remember much but I have a hazy memory of holding you up (and your dress together) so you could open your presents. Far and away the best wedding I've been to.

I reckon your experience of facilities is pretty much down to the staff on the day form the cleaners and clerical staff right through to senior consultants whihc doesn't seem right to me.
Absolutely - Chch Women's has gotten snazzy new premises since I birthed there but (from the reports I hear) the staff and policies haven't changed one whit.
I'm still boggled by the nurse who came in and scolded me for crying on the day my milk came in. I distinctly got the impression that many members of staff had forgotten that they were dealing with real human beings.

Yeah, I must admit that I've always thought home birth was a crazy idea (I'm a big fan of modern medicine). But after the hospital experience I can see exactly where they're coming from.
I'm a pretty big fan of modern medicine too. The thing that tipped me into the homebirth camp was discovering that homebirth midwives carry all the same gear as is available at a primary birthing unit like Burwood so all you're missing out on is an uncomfortable car-ride.
As it was my son's birth was so quick the midwife missed it so it was all a bit moot but I suspect we were a lot better off birthing beside our fire than in the car halfway along Barbadoes St.

I'm not surprised those early days took so long for you to process and be able to post about - it sounds rough and not even a little bit trivial.
I hated the Chch Women's kick-out-the-Dads policy so much. I think I cried solidly every one of the five nights Jamie had to leave me there for. That was a huge factor in my having my next baby at home.

I always thought that at least part or the illegality of "obscene" images was due to the potential for exploitation of real people in the making of. Unless the author has some very intense research methods this just isn't an issue with text.
My parents recall seeing a film that had to be screened to male and female audiences separately.
