<The other interesting thing about Western Springs is that it is the only mainstream school that boys can go to if they live in the CBD/Ponsonby/Freemans bay/St Marys Bay. It isn’t just Pt Chev that is feeding Western Springs. With greater density and more people living in the city it is going to get a lot worse. I’m wondering if there are any plans for a new unisex high school to cater for the CBD?
WSC is not unisex, it's mixed. There are plenty of unisex schools in the CBD etc area, not so many mixed.

Haven't actually had time to play the new disc/s yet (free cd with the lp!) and had forgotten that Vol 2 is already in the house - belatedly comparing track lists both 'Minnie Dean' and 'Whiskey & Kisses' seem to be on both Vol 2 and 3. Will compare aurally when I escape the treadmill.
Will check the tour dates and hope they're in a slightly bigger Auckland venue this time. Newmarket was.... intimate. -
Marlon Williams & Delaney Davidson's new record is out today - Sad But True Volume 3. It has the sublime instant classic 'Minnie Dean' on it, once heard never forgotten. These guys - along with Tami Neilson - have been slogging around the country over the past year doing great performances (and I don't even like country music!) so it'd be great to see them get some sales. Vinyl and cd, too!

Went Jordan and Cairo last January/February and were struck by the lack of tourists the too. Lots of snow in Jordan which curtailed our activities but completely recommend a visit to anyone. Jerash was great (Bedouin bagpiper), Petra unbelievable (and empty) Dead Sea likewise.
Cairo was empty, more hawkers than tourists, very hard for them.
Totally endorse the above suggestion to get a tour sorted rather than travel casually. There's a number of UK outfits that do it, we used Explore who assembled a tour for the four of us. Were able to do it a few days before we hit Amman. Removed trauma whilst allowing us to change stuff as we went along.

Having grown up and learned to drive (and cycle) in London I am still amazed at the almost complete lack of interest from most road users to other road users in Godzone. The inability, for instance, to understand that racing up to a red light is pointless, use that time to help others turn etc. I'd hazard that at least half the time any vehicle comes to a STOP sign here in Auckland they just bowl straight through. Staggering. I refuse to ride a bike any distance on public roads here as I'm just too scared of the downside. This means that I haven't encouraged my kids either so they miss out on many things as a result, but at least they're still alive. When NZers learn to accept that there are many things that the 'man alone' has to do in a collaborative fashion then things will change. This is true in many areas, but really obvious on the road.

I once managed to get a GST receipt from the ASB Visa loyalty scheme, True Rewards, for the 'purchase' of something (forgotten what now!). It took a lot of work though.
Talking of the Herald and its attitude, another poisonous editorial today on the film business incentives. They really don't want any Americans spending their money here!
