Hard News: Dirty Politics, in reply to
This is a Government that, for the first time since the 1960s, is positioning itself to make political capital from the potential deaths of ‘ANZAC’ troops.
Who did it in the 60s?

So the PM himself gave Cam the new number;
Mr Key confirmed this morning that he had given Slater his new cellphone number after he changed it during the election campaign.
However he said he was "fundamentally not" in contact with Slater.

It's actually all hilarious. Gwyn and Ketteridge will both wish they'd been less sympathetic - as he's taking their reputations down with him.

Little’s performance over the last few days has been nothing short of stunning.
I particularly liked his line, "cut the crap" - given I'd said it so many times over and over to myself when Key opens his mouth :-).

Dita de Boni always worth reading;

That need for a correction in Parliament is an interesting one. The question was whether Key had corresponded with Slater about the IGIS investigation/report. Key said “no” – then came back to Parliament to change/correct that to “yes” with the explanation that he had rec’d an unsolicited text from Slater, which he then acknowledged/responded to.
Point is yes, he had received a text from Cameron Slater.
And here’s the interesting bit… the PM noted during the period of the Rawshark email releases, that he had to change his phone number (which was annoying for him) as that number was partially revealed in one of the hackers releases. See the reporting here;
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/10460563/Dirty-Politics-latest-scalp-John-Keys-phone-number
So, sometime after September when the number was changed, Key (or someone else who has the PMs mobile number) gave Cameron Slater the number. I mean, how easy is it to get hold of the PMs mobile number? Do all media folk get it? If so, it seems a very lax sort of security to me.

.. whether the Act is in play.
Interestingly, Nicky Hagar says it "appears" to be a breach;
Certainly this question/aspect of Gwyn's findings needs to be tested - I'm assuming that would have to be via an official police complaint. To me, it might be a good petition for Action Station to take up - and then having gathered signatures in support of the proposed police complaint, they send it on to NZP (given NZP seem to be ignoring/side stepping David Parker's earlier complaint).

Andrea Vance: "For National, Slater was a useful Mr Hyde to Key's Dr Jekyll."

Can someone tell me why this is not our Watergate moment?
Yet to come is Dame Beverley's investigation around public servants being instructed to break the law in respect of OIA responsibilities.

And there is likely to be a snap debate called for in Parliament today on Gwyn's findings.
Plenty yet to come.

This kind of nit picking approach starkly contrasts with the kind of no bullshit attitude Andrew Little brings to the table (as Leopold was insinuating), and that’s an approach we can hopefully acclimatise ourselves to in good time.
A joy to read, NSA, but the above line really, really made me smile - acclimatise, such an appropriate word.
