I knew there was something in the past I had seen that has that familar ring......
Seems that the same PR brigade is still active and spouting the same tactics.
Starts about 1-40 minutes in. Duncan Garner again........

Ah yes........how cute.....from Gordon Campbell Scoop
In which case (a) don’t whine about it afterwards and (b) don’t call in the Police to threaten the media into silence. That’s a really bad look. Especially for a government that only a couple of months ago was seeking to rush through legislation to drastically extend the power of state agencies to carry out covert surveillance of private conversations on private property.

Let me get this straight. If you are within earshot of a conversation between two people and you have your recorder going it is OK to publish what Bill English said to the other guy. But if you move - still in direct view - but with a "cone of silence" over the two parties, it is not alright......
Publish. Any hearing will be well after the election and there is no way the HOS would be closed down.......right?
But then again, it might be a godsend to ACT if it comes out. If disgruntled ACT members got the message that Don Boy was to be given the biff, then ACT might get that surge they are desperate for.......oh the rock and the hard place..

So, could this be case of form in a teacup?
Ummm...what would have happened if there were two lip readers outside the window and giving a running commentary of the two J's chitchat??

Rich:
So Buckley Systems is not a goer? They send tonnes of "value added" metal overseas. Tonnes of some of the biggest magnets around!
We consume over 500 tons of steel, 20 tons of aluminium and 65 tons of copper per month.
On the contrary, I would argue strongly that what we want is 100 more Buckley Systems within the country to just begin with.
Selling out IP - even for a licence - is shortsighted if we want to get this high value manufacturing sector up and running.
This is the sort of technology that gets bought off and canned in a couple of years and wasted until the 18 year patent period lapses.
We can do better that that. We must.
Make sure you read the post on Public Broadcasting here on PAS. What is scary is that what has happened to broadcasting is relevant to what has happened to NZ science and NZ manufacturing.

I have long contemplated instigating a rolling boycott of TVNZ,
Start a version of "Occupy" TVNZ ??

As it stands, the only thing it’s missing right now is live gladiatorial snuff.
I get the impression Sky is moving closer and closer to it. The timing of these gladiatorial brutal boxing/wrestling/kicking "entertainment events" inside the octagon ring is waaaay inside kids programming time.
The New World is nigh.

For example, for 10 years NHNZ has partnered the University of Otago in offering a Science and Natural History Film Making Masters level degree course. Every year the course produces 10 commercial half hour documentaries which have won over 40 newcomer awards. They are screened internationally but not in NZ and in my view that is appalling.
The last word says it all.

Bart:
Golden Boys maybe. But forced by the need to follow the systems sources of money.Rather than being led by successful science groups and responding to areas we are actually good at, it is a direction imposed by bureaucrats.
But hopefully, I think, "turned" from the "dark side" by a bunch of bloody insistent science and R&D lobbyists. Plus the realisation that the resources IRL have are far and away well below the crtical mass required to support this sector. That is well established in the report.
Ask Paul C. He has spouted for years that the only viable sector for "progress" is High Tech from within the manufacturing sector.
To be fair the 9 year Labour government had exactly the same attitude.
I wouldn't disagree at all. It has taken both parties a few years to begin to ween us off them. - Or should I say.....back onto them......? Hmmm.....

Russell: I also meant to comment that National mentioned the Advanced Technology Institute in a number of the replies. I was surprised you did not note it.
It is/will be a biggie.
