I'm a bit late to this one sorry, but I did have to add, is it just me and my Wellington-hating ways, or is the Wellington waterfront area actually just as shite, David? I'm referring to the whole Queens Wharf Event Centre and shopping mall - I was there when the latter was opened with a great hoopla - but no-one came, the good shops were replaced with shittier ones and I'm not even sure what's in there these days. Anyone?
That Queens Wharf section has its moments, but it's hardly a cohesive example of a public space that's well utilised by the populus on a regular basis. The biggest problem in Wellington I thought was that there was no covered walkway there from Lambton Quay, essential on those rainy days. It's something Auckland would do well to consider too, especially as it rains more and heavier up here...
