Really? Legally? Bugger, I'm a hard core repeat offender -- and all because I was too lazy to come up with some new vocabulary.

Yeah, I would have racked up some fines too. All because what the English language has to offer me is the inadequate word "partner" (no, we're not in business together), where the Italian has the beautiful compagno/compagna, which happens to be the same word for political comrade.

Does anyone think we should have STV for constituencies

    Oh please dear God no!

Nah... I'm happy to move on, because Tom always does a really splendid job of making my point for me as it takes so little to bring out his nasty side.

    Way to move on, Craig!

The Green candidate, Denise Roche, was reportedly in tears on Saturday night about the 3695 electorate votes she received when she was only campaigning for the party vote.

Well, that's bizarre. Is there any truth to what I've been reading in the past few days that Tizard claimed that Roche had endorsed her, when she had in fact done no such thing? If that story is true, it seemed to me she deserved to lose. And if Roche was crying over a seat lost by the centre-left, then why didn't she endorse Tizard?

Considering some of the rather ugly vitriol being thrown at Nikki Kaye not a million miles from here, perhaps that's one moral high horse that should be left in the stable. If you don't mind.

Bloody, hell, Craig, did you actually mention a high horse? Because from where I'm sitting, you've been riding this wee pony for the last week or so, and it hasn't been a lot of fun to watch. In the matter at hand, your suggestion that this here board has the same duty to impartiality as the only major newspaper in the country takes some sort of cake, that I'll promise to have delivered to you as soon as you dismount. Jeez.

So is this the official Friday Fun thread? In that case ...

    Love it:

New Zealand has a complicated and obscure voting system (for example, four parliamentary seats are reserved for Maoris, despite the fact few pure-blood Maoris still exist).

    He's a wickedly intelligent bloke

His first foray as leader was wickedly dumb, he'd better improve and quickly.

  • Island Life: The Art of the Deal,

I must say I agee with page two of this thread a lot more than with page one... Great move by Key, and if it works for the country and for Maori he's sown up re-election in three years, forcing me to say "good on him".

And as a foaming at the mouth leftie, I'd add that on Saturday night I was looking at a Key-Dunne-Hide triumvirate, now it's a minority government in which the Act is more than counterbalanced by the Maori Party influence. In terms of the kind of constituencies that the gov would be serving, at least on paper (and we've got nothing else to go by) I'm a far happier chap right now.

  • Up Front: Walking Through the Ruins,

IMHO you're not allowed to ask someone to help you move more than once a decade

Or once a lifetime, if they've helped you carry up a narrow flight of stairs one of those old washing machines that came with a concrete ballast inside. By rights I should have named my first born after the guy.

    roll out the good pizza

    Secret Muslims?

I didn't mean the bin Ladens, I meant the Americans. Like they're new President, you know. Oh, nevermind, I just explained the lamest joke in the history of these boards... (retreats in the shadows)
