She’s been cloned now? ;)
As a great man once said... I corrected it in under 30 seconds, thought I was going to get away with it.

If you are going to dis M.I.A. I will FIGHT you with my giant handbags. You have been warned.
I’m not dissing anything, just arguing that a) M.I.A. is alive and well and b) the last thing you could say of our culture is that it produces too few mashups. It’d be like saying that the world is a swell place, pity it’s so underpopulated. And I don’t hate people either, you know.

We would surely have missed out on M.I.A.'s excellent "Paper Planes" under your rules.
We're getting covers, nothing but covers all the time, under the current supposedly inhibitory rules. Really the idea that our culture doesn't produce enough mashups is hard to credit.

And the thing is, being “called out” sucks, but you can choose to look at it two ways – “hey, I’m learning, here’s this thing I didn’t know, and I can try to be better for it”, or “Bite me! You don’t know me. I’m not ableist/sexist/homophobic”.
I regret to say I went for the latter. But then one learns. It also helps to have kind teachers I must say.
Pffft, you’re just showing your perfect-english-speaking privilege.
Actually, that’s Latin :-)
(ETA: which, just to square the circle, I got via my working class education. There.)

Very confusing to read the terms when they mean something very different.
Actually, the root is exactly the same. I see no reason to be confused.

I can definitely understand that and see the value in it. I think it’s about context, ultimately-one person asks what rape culture means because they genuinely don’t know and haven’t gotten into the habit of using Google, another because they want to troll, and another because they’re aware of what it means in general but can’t see how it relates to that specific conversation.
They have a lovely saying in Naples: "nobody is born taught" (as opposed to learned). We all need to get schooled at some stage, and you can choose to be a dick or not while it happens, but that's about it.

I think “privilege” does some of the work that “blind spot” used to do (before the latter was presumably consigned to the Memory Hole for its hint of able-ism)
"Blind spot" could be construed as ableist only by Peripheral Vision Man, surely. And owls.

It’s about shit you don’t have to deal with because society treats your… qualities? characteristics?… as normative.
In that you are a default type of person. Colbert did a magnificent bit on neutral man’s burden a couple of years ago – but what he says there about race could be applied to gender, sexuality, class, you name it.
(Seriously, I cannot overemphasise what a good way to spend five minutes of one's life watching that video is.)

We might have got from here to here but what about this, this and this?
I think if you were to suggest that our culture lacks the means of doing mash-ups and pastiche, that would be... a hard sell. Anything that limits our obsession with recycling stuff honestly at this point is fine by me. That said, Mickey-wise, it's not as if the current provisions prevented this.

22% of PA readers describe themselves as “Professional or Senior Government Official”, vs 23.84% at Pundit. A couple of per cent of us are beneficiaries, so yeah, some privilege there
Not to worry, some of those government officials will be crossing over to beneficiary soon enough.
