  • Up Front: It's Not Sex, and It's Not Education,

    reductio ad adbsurdum...

if you take the middle 7 letters out of "warmly thank"
you spell ... a terribly appropriate word?

    what's the fuss?
    seems armlyth enuff to me,
    he lisped...

...but I can see how a lack of upper limbs
would preclude - or at least hamper -
    the remnant 4 letter word...

Solo, and thanks for all the flesh...
...and thank you Mr Barnes for illuminating
the link between Sodomy and blindness -
so not the barbaric acts of Onan, then?
...and for getting to the bottom of buggery
and sorting the chaps from the knaves
    amongst the cunning Bulgar Votemen
("...is this an election or are
you just pleased to see me?")

which just makes me think of
    those other Vulgar boatmen
(no, no, not Hello Sailor) ...

    Разовьём мы кудряву!
    Ай-да, да ай-да,
    Aй-да, да ай-да,
    Разовьём мы кудряву.

    Razovyom my kudryavu!
    Ai-da, da ai-da,
    Ai-da, da ai-da,
    Razovyom my kudryavu.

(Now we pull hard: one, two, three.
    Ay-da, da, ay-da!
    Ay-da, da, ay-da!
Now we pull hard: one, two, three.)

    - Song of the Volga Boatmen

    pillar biters...

That was about the point at which I
was going to column about this.

I'd just like to dash off a few words of welcome
to Column, now that it has become part of the
large family of inducted verbs, brother Google will
show you the ropes and explain your new duties...

  • Busytown: Sons for the Return Home,

I think this is possibly the best car photo in the history of cars or photos.

Surely this must be an out-take from the real Tintin movie...

So an alternate universe based on the drawings of

  • Hard News: A work of art called Chimney Book, in reply to Kris V,

    media massaging services...

I’d really like the thoughts/responses/opinions of Canterbury PA peeps.

Your media selections for info received during quakes doesn't include the helpful A4/A3 sheets from the Government - I found those really helpful (and no power needed to access them), the DHB did some as well - and using petrol stations and supermarkets as distribution points (as well as home delivery) in lieu of the usual libraries, etc, meant they had good community saturation - it always annoyed me how many info sources needed access to websites (and therefore power) fine for some but not useful for many others.
those with Press home delivery were well served, but many who only casually bought the paper had severely diminished access to paper sales (many dairies, malls, etc not open or gone)
The free radio sent out by Meridian (before september I think - an uncanny act of corporate prescience?) was our only source of info for a coupla days and well useful beyond... and National Radio was brilliant.

    Brownlee's english fails...

Well I think the first point was, it was a unique opportunity that occurs once a year,

Unique: • being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else
    • particularly remarkable, special, or unusual

    and...
Sean How much? Can you talk ballpark percentages for us?
Gerry I can't do that because I'm not setting the price, but what I can talk is some general parameters.

    <duh>

He seems very keen to derisk things for the insurers and reinsurers by giving them Geotech / land information - but not prepared to do the same for the people actually living on the land - what a tosser!

No I don’t think it's overly accurate because it implies that we went there and achieved nothing, and I don’t think that’s the case.

Well he would say that wouldn't he...

  • Hard News: Chill out: it's a party, in reply to BenWilson,

    from Balls to Ballot...

Assuredly, the RWC is taking focus from the elections, but I don't think it's doing it in a way that particularly benefits any party.

Billboards aside, is anyone actually campaigning?
Kinda reminds me of what happened in Chchch Council Elections - campaigning went out the window, Parker didn't engage with voters on any issues other than being the face of the quake and they went with the default status quo - I do hope that doesn't happen with the General Election... too many important issues on the table to just default to Smiley John...

    The Kiwi-can to-do attitude...

When they finally did find something worthy of their time – a young woman with a single white Steinlager can – the slightly-built offender was rushed away by three large men.

Probably renditioned to Heineken's Camp Can-Contaminato, or whisked off to their Red Star Chamber to be fined to the maximum allowed under the Special Laws for compromising a "clean official sponsor zone"...
