This is as good an opportunity as I'll ever get to ask a large audience this question: am I the only person who, whenever he hears of reads the word "sophistry", conjures up the image of an upholstery shop?

Yes, although I must say that our local school gets a lot of problem children and results-wise... it kicks ass.

Well, New Zealand viewer is not the same as New Zealander, you've got to give them that. Although on the old site I used to be told routinely that I wasn't a New Zealand viewer, in spite of the fact that I was. Haven't bothered to check the new one on the account of the Flash thing.
It's basically outrageous that something like this doesn't go through a select committee.
Makes for a lovely headline pushing the buttons of just the right people, and the Herald (online edition - but I'm not into giving them money) dutifully opens today with "Truancy Parents Face Fine of $3,000".
The logic of punishing economically families that we already know to be under financial stress escapes me, but there you go.

Beat me to it. (It could be your new slogan: Lyndon Hood, faster than RSS). I must say though that the word "Satire" in your byline on Scoop is horrible, it really must go. It's like telling a joke and pausing just before the punchline to say "this is going to really make you laugh".

News flash to the fucktards: Not everyone who comes to your site has (or wants to have) Flash.
Hear, hear. I use Firefox for 99% of my browsing, and have not installed the Flash plugin. When I find that I really need it, I fire up Explorer, but the hassle means I mostly don't bother to visit flash-heavy sites.
