Urgent Debate, The Government's decision on Auckland governance. Parliament TV now.

I'm not sorry to see the Maori seats go. It's not "acceptable" to say so, I'm sure, but I'm not. If Maori want representation, they can stand alongside all the other candidates. There's no shortage of qualified Maori with high profiles. How many Maori councillors on Manukau City Council?
I don't think it unacceptable to think that. I am sure you are right with regard to high profile etc but what I find all too common is the assumption that "they" are all in South Auckland, Manakau being suggested,Ngati Whatua are on the waterfront, Eastern Suburbs and I feel that is what we will face as soon as this happens. Goff is debating this on TV now so I gotta go.

Is anyone else wondering whether the Supercity could be the first step in a plan to centralise control of public assets and services prior to hocking them off into private (corporate) ownership.
I oft think that, especially with the process that has been adopted. No referendum, ignoring the Royal Commission recommendations and ignoring our indigenous people suggests exactly where the true interests really lie. Also, if (as it seems) this will be, we don't need no Wellington candidates, we have Aucklanders! :)

If they have used the 78 number SINCE making the changes then that's obviously dishonest but it's not a number I've seen bandied about since the campaign?
But it was bandied about recently in the House(not the big house)when Garrett in question time did seek the Minister of Corrections to confirm the number. I did think he used 77 though but I could be wrong. Hansard would know.

but "to be honest I wouldn't recognise the person, so it's not of any great moment.
She is good :)

Nah, Del's got a sense of humour. Garrett's idea of a fun time would be a guided tour of Gitmo.
You're right - no similarity. One of them makes a living peddling crap to unsuspecting punters. The other is a TV sitcom character.
That's knowledge bro'
The art of the con. First make them like you.......as in" What can you do to help me"? followed by "boy have I got a deal for you, fuk you very much. -
Given they have criticised the government for having too timid a stimulus package, I shall be very interested to see what that is.
If I hear back, I'll let ya know.
Bit late (got labelled as spam ) cos I am generally, but this is what they wrote
Good afternoon Sofie
The following is a reply from David Cunliffe MP to your email of Tuesday 24 March.
Regards
Carlie BromleyDear Sofie Bribiesca
Thank you for your enquiry. Your question is a complex one, and depends on a whole range of cicumstances, including some information which isn't available to us in opposition.
Having said that, my instincts are that at the time when households and businesses are retrenching, it is important for the government to use the strength of its balance sheet to keep the economy moving. This will inevitably require some debt over not only the short but also the medium term. Fortunately the current government has inherited an extremely low debt position by world standards from the outgoing Labour government. Labour will continue to prioritise jobs and sustainable growth at the heart of its economic strategy.
I look forward to your ongoing support.
Yours sincerely
David Cunliffe
