well except that it would be would be a huge waste of money

I guess the thing that has pissed me off the most about this guy was his claim to represent "white atheists" on the radio the other day - as a white atheist I don't want some know nothing racist twat, whose political philosophy seems to be driven by a belief that Atlas Shrugged is not a work of fiction, claiming to represent me.
I guess that what's really happened is that last election ACT was taken over by the National right in order to claim their seat, and this time aroiund, now that Libertarianz are defunct, they've been taken over by their culty right

yes I suffered through gagging on warm milk (and the itinerant dental nurses) of the early 60s – and I too feel a lack, something missing – when I moved back from my 20 year OE in ’04 it was obvious that things had changed and I was missing out on an important part of NZ
I think some Maori should be a part of basic NZ literacy

Speaker: Not even a statistic, in reply to
Oh, go away Paul. Perhaps Barry doesn’t take ethical advice from that particular corner (who would?), especially in the form of a pretty obnoxious attempt to co-opt her harassment in one hell of a patronising concern troll of a column? Which, when you get down to it, is just dick privilege in action.
Craig - this is an interesting case in that it's hard to talk about the subtlety of what Rodney's doing here - especially so close to an election - you're right, he's trying to goad Maggie to do something, something that IMHO she might want to do personally but her party likely doesn't want her to do (for reasons that we can't talk about here because of the past history of the person who's identity is being suppressed) - it's a particularly interesting game to play so close to an election - of course he could equally ask any opposition MP to do the same thing, but he hasn't.
I'm not naive enough to think that think Rodney has pure motives here (is it revenge for past slights? an attempt to remain relevant? his need to get on the radio every so often? who knows)
The real story though isn't Rodney - it's that the system has conspired to protect this horrible man - and that's rape culture handed down from the highest parts of our judiciary to protect the good old boys
-
Here's a great example of the wider rape culture in action, looking after one of their own (hats off to the ODT for both giving us the search terms and telling us it is legal to use them).
I can see why Maggie Barry seems unlikely to use her parliamentary privilege here, so close to an election I bet as soon as Rodney made his suggestion she got a call from NP head office.
The edit history on the perp in question's Wikipedia page makes for fun reading

yes I use an ATM too – usually I try and walk out of customs and hit one (or hit one before that if I can), I have a mental map somewhere of ATM locations in various border crossings around the world (Bangalore, Taipei, halfway thru the Shenzhen subway crossing, SFO’s car rental place etc) you get the idea, it’s just part of learning how to travel – my experience is that almost all ATMs from reputable banks take my ATM (not credit) cards
I gave up on traveler’s cheques a decade or so ago after changing one at 4am arriving in Chennai and being given a stapled wad of money 6 inches thick (kind of like a tear off wad of Ghandis), all too large to use as tips

Hard News: Auckland's future: Keep calm,…, in reply to
Could you point me towards an international airport that doesn’t do exactly the same thing, because I’ve not come across one. (Anything that efficiently facilitates my speedy departure from the airport with a carton of duty free cigs tucked under my arm works for m
I travel a lot and don't really know if any that are quite so blatant (actually forcing you to walk through the duty free store when you arrive (I often end up at immigration in tears because of all the perfume) it's one thing to walk down a corridor with shops on either side, quite another to force you into the shop when you're running for a plane - to me it's an embarrassing show of greed that makes feel me a bit ashamed every time I arrive back in the country (in tears)
-
A friend recently called Auckland airport's mercenary approach to customers especially the whole thing of forcing arriving and departing international passengers through their duty-free maze as "the New Zealand ride's exit-through-the-gift-store"

The subway in Berlin ran from one side of West Berlin to the other but under the East – I have a definite memory of them slowing down through the deserted stations – one could see a lone guard with a machine gun standing under a bare light bulb no doubt guarding against the chance of one of us daring to jump of and defect to the East

I guess the think that amazes me (an no one is talking about) is that here the SIS is the FBI’s goto boy for copyright enforcement
Why on earth is the SIS dealing with something as prosaic as copyright? surely their remit is OMG-terrorists and reds-under-the-waterbed
