I'm intrigued. This feels like a compliment out of context. Who likes dry grapes? Ah HA! Raisins! So it's the opposite of a raisin piece. Which may be an elaborate play on raison d'etre. So... this post... is... not a reason for being?

Anyone know of a bread company for sale?
Cause I'm picking that the first one to run a "Looking after future generations" campaign that chooses to put B9 in it's bread (and donate $50c from every loaf sold to Spina Bifida research) may just get a bunch of free PR. -
And frankly, many Aucklanders do feel dictated to by Hide, and by the government, over the future of their city.
So Twyford wants to get some of that action himself?
If he looks forward to Act supporting his bill, I presume he's going to be backing theirs? Given they also want to define what a local council can and can't do under a representational democracy. Surely his comment about the "significant and irreversible" parts of Hide's plan should have been in glowing support, not hypocritical contempt?
Referenda (or deferred decisions to election) aren't all bad. Sale of significant assets (although not defined by Wellington on some register thanks) seems like something that needs clear mandated support. So in that it seems that both Labour and ACT agree - the fact that ACT wants to take it further is a valid discussion point between them but guys, you're now playing on the same team. You're just arguing how far to punt it downfield (really should leave the sport metaphors to Mr Haydn)

Duncan, can I ask if Telecom have a business case to build their cabinets then why don't you? As in, why don't you build out from the exchanges yourself on your own fibre and own cabinets?

I am quietly enjoying the fact that a post on diversionary tactics regarding prison sentencing has ended up discussing smacking. Are we sure there isn't a 9th Floor PR puppet master amongst us? :>

But Craig it's the hiding of that testosterone that's so frustrating here. If you wanna be "tough on crime" then own up to it. If you wanna build affordable prison cells because your sentencing policies are putting more people inside for longer then own up to it.
This need to hide it behind spin du jour is what flaming fucks me off. (And yes, it's Government. Sure. But this is another level up. And I still have the right to complain to the interwebs about it :> )

Well that's disappointing.
Although the whole "we never wrote them down bit" sounds a bit like "whoops, we forgot it was meant to be a single challenge game but nah sweet we'll just run with this" -
Sigh.
Putting aside the (highly valid and needed) discussions around WHY we have such a burgeoning prison population, the point about an immediate need for prison beds at efficient cost very much stands.
And properly designed cells using containers on existing prison land does seem a valid possible response to that.But why do we have a Government that refuses to engage in normal, adult discussion about it? Do we have to be spun EVERYTHING?
