From: Judy Martin's southern slough
A digression I know, but .. how do you pronounce this, Judy?
Slow rhyming with cow?
Slow rhyming with, well, slow?
Slew?
Sluff?
Sloff? -
The Edmonds afghan recipe totally rocks. We love it.
Lucy - I don't know that Margaret Mahy book you mentioned - would it be way beyond the ken of an 11 year old? We are always on the lookout for the next read ..

Very nice post, Jolisa.
My 11 year old keen reader adores Footrot Flats too, though most of his little mates have never heard of the series. Their loss, say I. Another favourite is Bogor - something about the little woodsman and his friend the hedgehog just has my lad in stitches. -
Anyone know when we can expect Fire and Water to show up?
I'm reading this from Guatemala City where we are studying the impacts of the Volcan Pacaya eruption in late May, followed by a tropical storm two days later. So they had red hot ballistic blocks followed by rainstorms. Fire and Water. Actually it was quite useful that it was raining during the eruption as otherwise more buildings would have caught fire.

Thinking of selling your house? Forget indoor-outdoor flow, the next big thing is Earthquake Strengthened.
I'll be interested to see if Wellington folks heed the obvious lesson from Christchurch and start dismantling or reinforcing their chimneys. Not much sign of it so far but early days I guess. -
The other danger if you were standing in doorway was the obvious get 'thrown to the floor'.
I'm also curious about whether you would get clobbered by the door swinging wildly around - was this a problem for anyone?
-
Because how many people are going to remember to keep changing the water?
We do actually, as we live in a part of Wellington with rather ancient infrastructure and have quite a high frequency of power and water outages. Who'd have thought this was a blessing?
Very important to maintain the gin supplies also .. -
Next we'll be seeing Roodney in to advise.
Yeah right - on how the free market would have furnished us with excellent building codes?
-
You poor things - what Giovanni said - thinking of you too. My son wants to donate all $100 of the prize money he won a couple of weeks ago to the earthquake appeal.
Having been through the Inangahua earthquake as a very small child, I have never been in the least bit staunch about earthquakes. I find them terrifying. -
Well, it was hard to argue with his point about reducing vulnerability and increasing community resilience.
Who knows, perhaps he is doing a Bjorn Lomborg.
