Marcus: Re: Australia, we could export some of our water to our neighbors across the Tasman. They're in desperate need of rather a lot of it at the moment. That would be one way to partly relieve our current accout deficit.

Anyone remember Mr Key's plans to chainsaw the civil service? I'm not the only one to suspect that the end result would inspire John Grisham to write a book about it.
And with the money potentially saved by Mr Key's WFF cuts, how many water cannon trucks could that purchase?
Would bodyguards become the new plumbers/electricians?
Which would be the first barbed wire manufacturer to float on the NZX?
Does the South African-made Blaster, available as an optional accessory on the latest Hummer/S-Class/Explorer, come equipped with mustard gas?

care to generalise why this doesn't happen with frequency in say, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand?
As far as I'm aware, none of the above countries had a 2nd Amendment. Also, does Bowling for Columbine come to mind? Liberties may have been taken with some of the facts, but the general idea is obvious.

So far I've compared the two, and I don't seem to see anything much different. Or maybe I need to see the optometrist again.

If we let cops do what they want with crims, pretty soon some of them will do what they want with the rest of us. Or at least those of us who are too vulnerable to sustain a complaint.
Was anyone here ever at the receiving end of the Red Squad in '81? There'll always be a select few who dearly wish that Ross Meurant is in Howard Broad's seat.

WLG has probably one of the best terminals in all of Australasia. Easy to navigate, and the airport staff are generally helpful. Shame about the actual runway though.

Just as I thought. The whole thing's not really about "discipline" or "reasonable force" at all. It's really jsut the latest front in the Kulturkampf. Of course, we've had Kulturkampf in the recent past - the 1981 Springbok Tour, and Homosexual Law Reform.
-
I suspect the whole thing isn't really about "reasonable force", but rather a battle front that has opened up in Der Kulturkrieg. And all diplomatic avenues are well and truly exhausted.

Top work, girls. Insert obligatory reference here to Kiwi Ingenuity.
Suck on that, Coddy!
my favourite moment of the weekend was telling a tory mate, "good thing we have immigrants. your lot would never have come up with that"
we were not amused.

Don't mention the Battle of Singapore! Oh, and don't mention the Suez Crisis either!
