Hard News: #NetHui: it's all about you, in reply to
2 Often trolls or flame wars are dealt with by derailing into whimsy, which a smaller circle will then run with. I quite like that, & it’s not really something I’ve seen on other forums. Frustrating if you’ve got a point to make, but generally a fun way to draw a line under a contentious thread.
It was quite fun watching a certain someone taking that technique to the Dim-Post the other day, and using it to tie The Other James in logical knots. It's great as long as one has tried engagement first, something that this forum is IMHO pretty good at mostly.

Yep, there’s a time when you just have to sit back and watch the waves crashing on the shore, because keeping up requires ninja type skills, or stimulants.
AND not having real work to do :-)
I jest. But seriously Internet, you just wait, because if you still exist when my kids leave home and I retire early to a tropical island with my cats and my Thinkpad, you're not going to know what hit you!

audio-visual works by Stanier Black 5
My immediate thought was "why is there going to be an old British steam engine at OGB?". I don't know if that makes me more or less hip.

driving on flat roads and not looking at what you’re walking under in case it didn’t stay there
It's really saying something that you associate these two things with Wellington.

National could win Finance, but Labour could take Education, Maori Affairs going to Maori Party and Greens getting Environmental portfolios
I've always thought that the Greens could do more d̶a̶m̶a̶g̶e̶ good by going for Transport and Agriculture. Also, I suspect whoever holds Finance has an effective veto over anyone else's programs... otherwise, I like.

I saw Sonic Youth encore with the opening chords of 'I Wanna Be Your Dog' and then IGGY CAME ON STAGE AND SANG IT.
Vids or it didn't happen.

Southerly: Tower Insurance Have Some Bad…, in reply to
I can’t think of anything that fits the description of a write-off better than a house you must vacate so that it can be bulldozed.
Perhaps it will qualify as a write-off after it's been bulldozed?

I don't accept that it's inevitable insurance carriers must be douchebags. They decide to be, and saying otherwise is letting the bastards off the hook.
I specifically decided on AMI for our insurance, because of significant anecdata suggesting that they were less like this than other companies (certainly my parents never had a good word for State). So apparently in the insurance world, the alternative to asshattery is insolvency. Great.

Quite – don’t mean to offend-troll any atheists around here, but God does enjoy obliging people who say “X. will happen over my dead body”.
I suspect Garth may have cause to rethink a number of things when his time comes, and he is touched by His Noodly Appendage.

I recall my first Glastonbury, in the years before the police were allowed onsite, and getting through the gate to discover a kind of market lane for recreational drugs. The thing that still makes me laugh was the guy calling Git yer Afghani ’ash ’ere!
"Paaaaaandemic! I got ya paaaandemic!"
