From what I gather of Garth George's latest spleen-venting (and his previous ones), his political alignment seems closest to that of Pope Benedict:

Couldn't have happened to a nicer 'tycoon'. And while that term is more reminiscent of Monopoly than anything else, it is likely appropriate in the context of Russian crony-capitalism.
While his ramblings would no doubt go down well at an ACT conference
No-one should be surprised. (scroll down the list on that page)

Lucy S:
I remember listening to a BBC podcast, oh, six months ago now, talking about the subprime crisis. They interviewed one real estate guy in California who said that they were having a huge mosquito problem for the first time in decades because there were so many empty houses with swimming pools that weren't being cleaned, due to foreclosures. And I remember thinking, my god, this is huge, why hasn't anyone noticed? How did this happen?
It just seems to have taken most of the world six months to realise exactly how much of a problem there was.
Not coincidentally, most of these foreclosures have involved McMansions:

The burning issues as I see them:
1) International bandwidth - There needs to be another undersea cable running, for instance from Kapiti to Sydney, or Castlepoint to Fiji/Honolulu.
2) Traffic caps - Broadband speed isn't the most critical factor, but rather traffic caps. A hangover of the dial-up volume charging era. -
Whatever happened to the Mason Report?

As for the Chinese, when they stop buying US$ debt, the whole system really is toast. and they know it. so if they kill the US$, it's sort of like murder-suicide. alas, it looks like they are running out of time to solve this insoluble catch-22.
If McCain & Palin pull the trigger on Iran, do I sense a 21st Century Suez Crisis in the making?

If MMP gets thrown out, then STV is probably the best alternative. FPP is out of the question though, and for good reason.

$500 a week is probably enough to hire a part-time bodyguard. Or to buy a good supply of barbed wire. Or 1,000 rounds of rifle ammo.
