And he plundered his own successful film Two Cars One Night. Shot for shot he reprised it in parts.
Yeah, what Robyn said. And by 'plundered', I think you might mean about three lines, starting with "Do you know why I pulled you over miss."
But that's cool, not everyone will like it, I just wanted to add my voice to those who did. And yeah, I thought Eagle vs Shark was enjoyable enough, but I wouldn't rave about it, not like Boy.
@Stewart: You must see 2 cars 1 night. In fact, you must see it now. here it is.
As for the comments about the darkness of NZ cinema, I think that can be true, but it's also a little bit of a cliche. NZ has an equally bad record of shit comedy throughout the same period. Send a Gorilla, Chicken, anything by Grant La Hood and almost everything Harry Sinclair touched during the 90s/00s... Boy is a relief not because of the contrast with all that NZ-gothic stuff, but because we finally produced a comedy that was actually good.

Absolutely Mark, couldn't agree more. It's like the inverse of the music on Nat Rad, in the sense that on Nat Rad it's mostly talk with a little bit of music, but it's the same in that those little bits of music are great when it's a good tune - as it often is thanks to the musical programming of Zen...

It's a beautiful piece of radio - it's all in the silences. If you ever get bored of being an undergroud media hero Russell, you could always try the diplomatic core.

Also, some of you would've heard Mike's comments this morning about this thread (yay, we made onto the station we all love!) He referred to it as character assassination, and questioned how some of us would feel if a microscope was placed on us.
As a colleague commented, you hardly need a microscope to notice that Mike is late every day, for instance. A casual glance should do it. And I think generally speaking this thread has been restrained, reasonable, and with views from those who love Mike's show, and those who don't. Mike said this week he isn't someone who "needs smoke blown up his arse." I have my doubts personally, but either way I think it's fair to say he doesn't take criticism well. For the record, nor do I - although I don't read out people's cellphone numbers on the air if I receive a text that's less than complimentary.
I do want to restate what I said originally though - everyone has feelings, and it's hard not to feel hurt when people publicly say they don't like what you do, or the way you do it, etc. Bear in mind the fact that Mike is reading everything being written. Which is not to say you shouldn't say what you think about the changes at bFM, but let's try and keep the ad hominem attacks to a minimum. I think 7 pages and 200 comments into this thread, we've probably said most of what we need to about what we think of the Mike Havoc Breakfast Show.
(If you missed Mike's comments re this thread, you can listen here.)

As a wire host for some years (on a good day by far my favourite show to do, on any of the radio stations I've worked on, ever) I have to agree that cutting the show back to an hour isn't great. Charlotte's show is expanding, as are the 2-4 shows, and for some reason the Wire is cut back? Doesn't seem necessary, or make sense.
On the other hand, I would say to comments such as @Mark's above, plenty of shows on other stations go from interview to interview. Checkpoint is one that springs to mind. Although they do also have reports from reporters. But for an hour show, it's not impossible. Which is not to say it's desirable. And Wire hosts are music lovers too - I would have hated not being able to play my favourite tunes.

1. Sorry Sofie :)
@Andrew C - yes, as I think I mentioned here a few years ago on this topic, Mike actually expressed indignation to me once at the fact that the breakfast host (yes, you Hugh) who had been there from 6-10 (am I right? 6am start?), wouldn't stick around and keep doing his show until 10.30ish for Mike to turn up! There's just so much lack of irony and self-consciousness there it's incredible.
@Phillip - This has been one of bFMs problems for a while, star-fucking. I believe any number of key appointments over the years have been made because the person in question has a TV show, a slot on music TV, or some other brand, rather than because they're doing good radio, and often in spite of the fact they're not. As I said before, I think Matt will do a good show, but it would have been a bold, fresh and symbolic move if the show had gone to someone unknown (or at least unknown outside of bFM), as @Andre suggests.

Sophie - I think you've misinterpreted my comments or something - they're not moving drive, Mikey is simply taking over from the five hosts there currently. Nor is the slot being extended. My comment about the 2-4 being extended was facetious - i.e. the 2-4 will become 2-4.30, or 2-5, or 2-whenever Mike shows up. But I'm sure the 2-4 people will be happy with the extra time, although "filling time" is never as much fun as knowing in advance how long you're going to have - kinda kills the ability to build towards a last song, end of your show etc.
That's cool that you find Mike's tardiness fine. But for others, including station management, it's not cool. It means your key show of the day doesn't start until an hour late, which means you let down sponsors, advertisers, and listeners who like listening to the breakfast host. Not like someone turning up an hour late is not the same as not liking them when they're there. I means that a show that should be firing on all guns at 7am or earlier, with interviews, giveaways, features etc, doesn't really kick off until an hour later. A lot of people are at work by then and so miss out on a true breakfast show.

@3410 - yes, GH. You've got me intrigued as to who you are now. V? Message me if you want to remain in the shadows ;)

Yeah that was always the plan Russell - it's a job Mikey needs, not a slot on the radio. So a five day show was the only solution. I understand the sticking point was money, which was obviously going to be a reduction from breakfast (although it now means bFM has three full time announcers on staff).
I'm trying not to be unduly negative here, but yes, I agree. Although it's exactly what they did last time too, remember?
Just caught Mike on the radio before saying how much he was looking forward to not battling the traffic each morning. Ironically, if you're a breakfast host that turns up on time, that's one of the few good things about starting early - there's no traffic...

FYI, apparently Mike announced his departure today. Well, by departure I mean going to Drive. Which has its pros and cons.
Cons.
-5 drive shows are cut, halving the number of run of station music shows during the week. (Not including The Wire here).
-Mike and bFM are still locked in their co-dependent relationship, and those that don't enjoy Mike's style can no longer listen to drive.Pros.
- The people doing the 2-4 shows (the only remaining weekday run of station show open to different hosts) will inadvertently get a longer show each day of around say, half an hour.
- The people who love Mike still get him 5 days a week.Breakfast and Morning Glory shows are changing from 6-9 and 9-12 respectively. The earlier start on Brekky will be good for those who are up earlier than me, although I'm told Hannah does a great 6-7 show.
