I really, really wish the media would spend the time until all votes are counted doing something productive, like educating people on how MMP actually works. Endless and pointless speculation wastes a valuable resource - column centimetres and broadcast minutes (and people's attention).
There's plenty of other stories out there that could do with some oxygen. -

I note that the National Family's consigliere Wayne Eagleson is abandoning ship
- is it because Bill ain't 'mongrel' enough or because Eagleson can see the writing on the wall?
Or is he taking one for the team, to smooth the way for desperate National / NZ First 'negotiations'? -

can you please persuade your writers to read over their material before they hit Send?
First world problems ...
Most writers are not the best proofreaders of their own copy at the best of times - I doubt that Public Address can afford on-call proofreaders, and its contributors are usually doing this for free amidst myriad other tasks - but it does have a crowd resource to help with this ... Us! (quality control is a team effort).Typos or errors can be helpfully and discreetly brought to the writer's attention by hitting the email button at the end of the blog post (and before the responses start) - then tweaks can be made to ensure a flawless piece for posterity.
The major papers and media have people it seems who are paid to publish mistake after mistake daily.

I thought Radio NZ's televised coverage was just fine, I dipped into 1 & 3's posses of the usual suspects and left in dismay.
Serious public education about the mechanics and thinking behind MMP needs to be done before the next election - I guess getting RNZ or Parliamentary TV to have basic primers would still miss the lumpen blockheads who can't get their heads around blocs - judging by Stuff comments (and I must admit I am one and I'm still getting to grips with it all, having laboured under various misconceptions for years).

I wonder if there is an appetite for changing the MMP distribution to make Electorate seats one total, and then the balance of the seats are allocated along Party Vote percentages - that would seem to better reflect the will of the people ?
Or am I missing something?

Values (1972-1990) never won a single seat in any election. Their best showing was in 1975
Didn't they metamorphose into The Greens?
That has to be a plus! -

mad tactical voting skillz exemplified by Epsom.
So how do the obedient voting tools of Epsom feel now that Bill & Steve's Big Adventure has left them with a lame duck MP, with no seat at the big table, no power or clout to do anything useful for 'his ' electorate?
I suspect next election will be all 'David Seymour... - Who?'

I also note that Nicky Wagner never covered up the large picture of her face and National logo outside her electoral office (Kilmore St, Chchch) on Saturday…

the party donation electoral returns;
I’d be interested to know if National paid to hire Sky City venue for ‘faux victory’ bash last night…

I still don't get why the print edition of the SST has National's tally at 1.2 million - and they don't seem to have the Party Vote tally anywhere, yet have a page showing all the electorate results - do they not understand MMP - or is it me?
