Prosser apologised to Kathryn Ryan for the style and manner of his delivery, but skirted around the message.
I actually sympathised with him for having his knife confiscated. I had to hand over a nice little Leatherman on my key ring when leaving Sydney last year - though they let me carry on a bottle of Scotch that I could have killed people with!
But the guy's a racist prick, and a carpetbagger too - Winston's quality control is a bit lackadaisical I reckon.

Well, you would expect people educated in statistics to know more about statistics, wouldn't you? Are these newspapers actually arguing against the education levels of the experts, while claiming to help parents choose the best education? Better be careful, your kids may turn out to be educated! They may join the "high priesthood of data analysis"! We wouldn't want our lids to know more than the "wisdom of the crowd", would we?

Hard News: A long way yet, in reply to
The Clyde Dam project had to heat and cool the concrete to cope with Central Otago's weather extremes.

I can understand Russell's reluctance about photos. I took a bike ride to New Brighton and back along the river several weeks ago, and felt the same way. I only took 9 or 10 shots all afternoon; I don't even photograph the decline and decay of our old house in River Rd now, it's all too awful. (The pics I did take are at http://www.flickr.com/photos/gregor_ronald/ - look for the set "Bike ride in the east side")

Lancaster Park (wot was) did Christchurch's cricket and rugby, once upon a time. Why does cricket need its own venue? Oh yes, rugby now goes on for 10 months a year. Well then, they should pay for their venue, it's obviously popular. Ahem, not really...
I just can't believe these sports administrator guys; have any of their audience estimates ever been accurate?

Yes, there are brilliant riverside areas like this in Melbourne - apartments close to the river would be great, but there has to be a 50m-100m corridor between them and the river. First, to reduce lateral spreading in the next quake. Second, because living by the river is not the same as owning the river.

In a city with fluid and evolving areas of use, fixed rail runs the risk of being in the wrong places. Buses are economical and green if done properly, and they can change their route in a minute - my (occasional) Metrostar takes a different route through St Albans every week!

There's funky shopping in lots of little spots; Church Corner and inner Riccarton, Woolston, even Hornby. And Stanmore Rd is starting to revive - a bit.

Agree - several times I've been introduced to a new city by going to a conference there. I want to go back to Adelaide and Cairns for that reason, had 3 days in each and would like to see more.

Grateful Dead's "Attics Of My Life" deserves an occasion. I once went to a helicopter pilot's funeral, where Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings" was cheesy but just the thing - not a dry eye in the place. And nothing matches Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" for skiing bumps.
