Um, anyone else think the author of the flag story in this morning's NZ Herald had been perusing this posting and subsequent comments? Even used the same supermarket shelf pic. Coincidence?

Andrew Little’s no vote at all option is really the worst – we have more than enough apathy to go around
I quite agree – thought that was a very silly thing to say (even if I don’t care for any of the flag options). Does he want people not to vote in a general election too?

Thanks Rob. I heard a bit of Matthew Hooton going off about it yesterday on NatRad - he too, was calling for the head of McCully.
Stinky, stinky, stinky.

Glucina's piece this week on Lorde splitting with her manager was lifted straight off the Gruniad's website ... (she did acknowledge it as something like the Guardian reports fairly early on, but I wonder how many readers realised almost the entire piece was thanks to the Guardian).

My 2c worth on company "reviews", having been involved in a couple. It is quite clear to anyone sitting in the room when a "review" is announced that a decision has already been made. The "consultation" that then takes place is utterly dishonest and a waste of employee time but it allows senior management to then say they engaged in the process. Amazing that the outcome was what they wanted all along!

I wondered why Phil was sounding so tired, not his usual buoyant self. Thanks for that background.

Hillary made me cry. She seems like a real sweetie and isn't afraid to pull a face at some of the "news" she has to read.

Agree totally re Simon Mercep. I was looking forward to his start at RNZ but hardly ever listen to his slot now. He seems to struggle to know what he's going to say next.

I was half-pie watching the last couple of hours, believing that if I gave it my full attention I'd jinx it. But then at 6 runs and 2 balls I reckoned I'd jinxed it anyway!
I wasn't filled with confidence when Vettori walked out and said so. My husband, said, no, he's good ... and so it proved.
We've just got back from a quick trip to Dubai. The Bangladeshi cab drivers probably knew more about the NZ team than me, and they all love McCullum. The Pakistani gateman at the hotel shook my husband's hand on our last morning there (we'd overheard him and his African colleague talking about cricket) and said the best possible result would be Pakistan beating NZ in the final. Much laughter.
It was neat to have these friendly conversations - and cricket was the key! Who would have thought.

Hi Emma,
Good luck with the treatment. I toured a brand, spanking new radiation treatment centre last Saturday. The invariable reaction from the 200 or so people on the tour was: "What a great place, I hope I never set foot in it again". A surgeon who was speaking later said, referring to this reaction: "You must come through these doors with optimism. Everyone here is working for you, to help you."
I hope you are optimistic. It sounds like you are. The very best of luck.
