But remember David, even at the peak of *their* success, the cracks were beginning to show...

We ARE doomed...
At least fluinfo.org.nz cuts to the chase - what is it with the DHBs' labyrinthine and unfriendly websites? e.g. Canterbury, Auckland. And what exactly is the disturbing mutant doctor all about?

So, how do I, as an existing Mercury customer, get this $50 credit? They'll just credit my (and everyone elses) account? Yeah Right!
Phone them up and tell them I'm thinking about switching? If you phone them up, they'll put you on hold for about 5 minutes to talk with their manager. Then, they'll tell you the $50 credit offer only applies to customers for whom they've received a switching request from another retailer. True story!
The no-price-change until April 2010 applies all their customers though... -
Speaking of the SST (I love how it acronimises just like the Sunday Star Times - destiny in a name, or two), have they asked for his head on a stick yet?
Last year they (the trust) were keen for him to go to prison if convicted.

I was astonished by the downplaying of the injuries that were inflicted as well as the tone of comments made by Veitch's lawyer Stuart Grieve on Checkpoint last night, after the court hearing (audio here):
We were ready to brawl... we would've been brawling next week... there would've been blood on the carpet
With such a blithe and totally inappropriate attitude from the defence, there's clearly a frighteningly long way to go in accepting and understanding that violence is not OK in some quarters.
On a happier note, thanks to all concerned for the PA Social last night - great to meet some of you at last....

Had, in some parallel world, Sarah Palin entered the office of vice-president, things would have been mighty entertaining about now.
Bristol will now, allegedly, focus on "advocating abstinence".

Anyone concerned about their abililty to make submissions on resource consents that might affect them ought to be taking a very careful look at the The RMA (Simplifying and Streamlining) Amendment Bill 2009.
If passed, the bill will reduce your abililty to make submissions against projects you oppose, and make the process more expensive for submittors. Submissions on the Bill close next Friday (3 April).
More information and handy guides to submitting on the bill are available on the The Green Party and the Forest and Bird Protection Society websites.

Which is a shame - you should be paid for that stuff!

@ Tom - you answer "whatever happened to the opposition" as though Labour is the only opposition party. Unfortunately it seems as though 2/- media disinterest - applies to the Green Party too.
It beggars belief that this government is not coordinating a serious response to environmental issues with whatever it might be thinking about the economic crisis. Instead it is working on irrational projects like gutting the Ministry for the Environment, and increasing natural gas exploitation at a time when overseas the headlines warn of impending environmental disaster.

...but it all just seems so fucking lame.
Whomever came up with today's headline for Audrey Young's Herald story "Jobs summit throws up three big ideas" seems similarly unimpressed.
