  • Speaker: KICK IT! Goodbye England's Rose…,

    Speaking of which... now that NZers have a new-found appreciation for technically inferior teams sticking to a limited game plan and playing out of their skins to achieve an unexpected result, will we see a bit of love for the French effort in the last RWC quarter-final?
    Thought not.

    C'mon who doesn't love french rugby, I think it was the fact that the bloke with the whistle forgot the rules for large parts of the game that makes for the bitter feeling.;

    But if anyone things the relationship between politician and media is tame bitch and master rather than delicately balanced mutual parasitism is missing something much more interesting.

    I don't see our elected reps as parasites, I see them as our elected reps.

    Now Caroline Meng-Yee, if we didn't shuffle around like the imperfect mortals we are, she wouldn't have a job.She gets paid to look at us and freak us out about ourselves.

    And in CMY's world Len Brown is Jesus, don't worry about explaining policy and programme, just remember the guy thinks he's jesus.

  • Hard News: Gushing for Auckland,

    I like Len's Jesus quote. It makes sense and had a pathos to it. Why can't you mention Jesus in that context. People speak like that in the real world......and the Bill Ralston school of big boy media training junket is getting pretty tired. When will the media be people trained?

    Don't pick on primary school teachers, the ones I meet are pretty cool people who generally don't seem that political and get exhausted by the long hours of the daily demands of our most beautiful citizens.

    If you want to scream at education standards , scream at the slowing down of of an education system that is producing (and has the potential to produce even more) incredible maths confidence, general communication skills , basic writing skills at a very young age and artistic confidence using methods that kids are crazy for.......and with frequent vists to sand.

    Early Childhood Education.

    can't help wondering whether teachers bringing in something like this reluctantly are actually going to do more harm than good - "sorry your child just got emotionally lacerated but it's not our fault - blame Anne Tolley".The real problem here though, is not the national standards but the teachers themselves. I might support the Education Minister's campaign to shake up the arrogant antiquated teachers union with its tenure for all, but damned if I want my small daughter being collateral damage. Tolley may have imposed national standards on them but when it comes to our kids, teachers still hold all the power.

    Meanwhile DebhillCone finds that the insanity of nationally "standardizing" on a 5 year old is quite cold and heartless so she logically blames the nasty teachers union and the crazy militants who teach our children.

    We should have a sin bin system for the countries that are too ashamed or weird or both to face their internal politics. Just red card the bullies but they can replace them.

    Society is not free. Why the surprise? Politics is policed.

    Society isn't free, that was just a physical example of it.

    Luggage loss is a horrible lottery. First you lose it after an hour of staring at a conveyour belt , and then you have to wait with every other bugger whose lost luggae, report it, and then wait 24 hours until the airport calls you and then insurance kicks in, (from memory, of my policies).

    ..and if you are travelling you need to wear clean clothes fast, believe me, and then of course you need new luggage fast if you are on the move, the old luggage might turn up days later.
