Thanks for that Mikaere, those details were informative. I don't follow politics that closely but I though that the greens had been fairly consistant on this one. I don't see how it is a "hippie thing" to want to retain control over regulations. I am interested to know why people who generally support the greens have a parting of ways on this issue.
Is it because Sue Kedgely is off-putting? -
I hope so

I would be interested to hear people's opinions on the bill itself. I think it was flawed and I am pleased it didn't go through.
A regulatory overhaul would be good but I don't think this was it.
Maybe I am missing something.......
I am really interested in what people think about this. -
Good thinking Sam F.
Am with you on going J-style, I have a couple of those bookcovers from Japan that I bought back, some with manga style drawings on them. Keep em guessing.
Also nearly bought a cloth bookcover complete with strap that looks like a little bag. I restrained myself however, such things would be considered too much in NZ methinks.

This is a bit of a thread crossover thing, but reading this from the Guardian comments:
"they were sharing a train carriage, she said 'that books rubbish', he immediately stood up and threw it out the window and she was duly impressed."
I am thinking that "chucking a book" at someone facebook style probably wouldnt translate well into real life.

I saw the title and immediately got the reference. Not sure how I feel about that. I have been on the facebook crack for a bit now after being pestered by mates in the UK. That newsfeed is the point of difference I guess. I am quite keen to use the ibook stuff (esp after following the other thread here and at the Guardian).
Well I am off to chuck a book at someone.......

Thanks Finn that was really interesting.

anjum i agree about woman pulling out as things started to go down downhill. Interesting isnt it. Either you get angry and feel foolish for "posting while angry" or you spend so much energy in reasoned arguement that is not going to convince the person concerned. Meanwhile the subject at hand is sadly neglected.
I was instant messaging with a german friend while reading some feminist stuff about rape on the net, he asked me to send him the link. I said maybe later. I never did. The reason is kind of complex. I'm not really clear on it myself.
I guess not everyone can be invited to every discussion.
(it was a bunch of really fiery comments threads with alot of interlopers) -
yanked back up, yay!
Thanks.
I just wrote a really long post and it appears to be lost. Maybe a good thing it was rather rambling.

i was feeling hungover and sickened reading all that but i also thought about my generation and i actually think attitudes toward woman are changing for the better. i think we are making progress.
