Whatever's gotten into Steve I think there should be a whole lot more of it.

My Mum was a children's librarian all through my childhood so I had the run of the place, including all the backrooms and the stuff left from when the museum had been housed in the same building, which was absolute bliss. People who grew up in Nelson in the 70s and 80s still remember her storytimes with enormous fondness.

Peace, love and joy to you all.

Dido Twite is my absolute heroine. I totally want to be her.

I adored Pippi Longstocking with a passion but didn't ever really get the hang of Moomins.

My eight year old was initially worried about Coraline then, once it was overdue from the library, inhaled it over a drive from Chch to Akaroa and turned around and immediately re-read it. I think I'm just going to put The Graveyard Book somewhere he can find it.
Another one the lad has enjoyed (and I admit i haven't read yet) was George's Secret key to the Universe by Stephen and Lucy Hawking - I suspect his Birthday Borders Token may be used on obtaining the sequel.
I spent a good chunk of this year reading the Harry Potter series to my boys. That's a lot of words! It's taken them quite some time to come far enough out of that world to want to read other stuff.
I really should start keeping a record of what I read - by this end of the year all I can say is "I read a lot of stuff and I'm pretty sure I liked a fair proportion of it".

This (and the whole album it's from) has been rocking my whole family's world lately - anything that my father, my kids and I can all agree on has got to be good.

Our year wasn't really that flash and then we lost a family member to suicide in August. I will be very very glad to see the back of 2009.
I am optimistic that 2010 will be, at least, better.

It's not appropriate for an eight year old boy, is it?
I certainly won't be taking my 8 yr old no matter how much he begs.

As cinema it was stunning and I was impressed with how easy it was to follow the action. Fight scenes just always bring up a lot of uncomfortable questions for me (hippy, see).
